KRK GoAux Give Erik Aldrey Portable Power and Trusted Translation

For Mix Engineer Erik Aldrey, sound has never been just a profession; it’s a lifelong passion. From growing up in Venezuela in a family of working-class musicians to becoming one of the first Venezuelan engineers nominated for a GRAMMY®, Aldrey’s journey has always been defined by the way music makes people feel. Part of creating that feeling, he says, comes from using monitors that translate his mixes into the real world.

“Most people don’t listen on $10,000 speakers; they listen on phones, laptops, Bluetooth speakers, in cars—basically anywhere that’s not a pristine studio environment,” Aldrey explains. “As a result, what we mixers really need are tools that help translate music to all those systems. It’s not about having the most hi-fi setup; it’s about finding monitors that tell the truth. That’s what allows a mix to connect with listeners in the real world, which is ultimately the point of what we do.”

That’s how KRK has now come back into Aldrey’s life. The engineer previously owned the very first generation of ROKITs decades ago, running them alongside other monitors in his early career. At the time, they were reliable workhorses, but he eventually moved on as his studio setups grew larger and more specialized. Yet years later, a surprise package from a friend reintroduced him to KRK, this time through the compact GoAux Mobile Monitoring System.

“When I opened the box, I honestly thought they’d sent me a record or some kind of merch,” Aldrey recalls. “But inside were these tiny speakers, and I remember thinking, ‘Okay, let’s see what these can do.’ I set them up just to test them out and, suddenly, I was mixing full tracks on them without even realizing it. Hours passed, and I was still working on them. That blew my mind because I wasn’t expecting that level of usability and accuracy from something so small and portable.”

The GoAux monitors have since become a secret weapon in Aldrey’s workflow, allowing him to set up quickly, move between spaces, and still trust what he’s hearing. “I’ve mixed entire EPs on them,” he explains. “What really convinced me was when I sent the mixes off to clients who are usually super picky about details. They didn’t send me crazy revision notes like they sometimes do. Instead, the feedback was minimal, and the tracks translated beautifully everywhere. That’s when I knew I could actually trust these little things. They are more than just a travel option; they are real mixing tools.”

What surprised Aldrey most wasn’t the sound in the audiophile sense, but the way the GoAux monitors make him work. “If you ask me if they’re good for mixing, I’ll let you know that they’re great,” he says. “The monitors are not designed to flatter you. They push you to make decisions quickly and with confidence, and force you to address balance, EQ, and dynamics—all the fundamentals. The best part is that those decisions translate perfectly to the outside world. For me, that’s more valuable than having a system that just makes everything sound pretty.”

The portability of the GoAux has also given Aldrey new freedom. “As someone who often travels for projects, the ability to toss a pair of GoAux monitors in my bag means I can transform a hotel room or temporary workspace into a mix environment,” he explains. “I also love switching spaces when I get stuck on a project. It resets my ears and gives me a fresh perspective. With these speakers, I don’t have to compromise just because I’m not in my main studio. I can literally keep working no matter where I am, and I know what I’m hearing will hold up when I get back home or when the music goes out into the world.”

At home in his Hollywood, Florida, studio, the GoAux sit just below his main system. “They are always within reach,” he adds. “Sometimes they serve as the first playback system; other times, they’re the final check before sending a mix out.”

For Aldrey, KRK has come full circle. From his early days experimenting with ROKITs to his modern-day reliance on the GoAux for professional, portable mixing. “They’re small, they’re affordable, and they make me work faster,” he says. “At this point in my career, that’s exactly what I need. The gear that sticks with you isn’t always the biggest or most expensive; it’s the stuff that actually makes your job easier and your results better. That’s why these monitors have earned a permanent spot in my workflow.”

Malevolence keeps its edge with a decade of ROKIT-powered recording

With early starts in a spare bedroom with a DIY vocal booth, Malevolence’s recording space has grown into a fully outfitted creative space in a 1,000-square-foot former warehouse. Today, this professional studio allows the band to handle pre-production and jam sessions as they prepare for tours and upcoming albums.

“We started out recording our demos in my spare room; that’s where it all began,” recalls guitarist and vocalist Konan Hall. “Now, our professional studio houses a full live room downstairs and a custom-built vocal booth that gives us a professional space tailored to our creative process. It’s a far cry from those early days when all our demos were made in my house on a basic setup.”

While the creative space may have evolved over time, one thing that has remained consistent is Hall’s use of his tried and trusted KRK ROKIT 8 G2 Studio Monitors. Through cramped bedroom sessions, band debates, and long nights of pre-production, the band’s yellow-coned monitors have been a constant.

“I’ve had them nearly 10 years now, bought them secondhand off some kid,” Hall says. “They’re my personal speakers, but have been in our studio forever. They’ve been hammered with more heavy metal than most speakers should ever be put through, and they’re still fantastic. They’re really true-sounding; flat response, no extra coloration. I also like the little trims that are on the back for adding a little bit of high frequency or taking a little away. It’s also got good volume controls on the back, which is really nice.”

Even now, with a professional space and international recognition, Hall hasn’t felt the urge to replace the monitors. “Every time I think about upgrading, I ask myself, ‘Why?’” he continues. “Sure, I’d love to have a sub or maybe a set we could take on tour, but these old ROKITs; they’ve earned their place. When we track something here and later play it in a million-pound studio, it translates. That’s exactly what you want—no surprises.”

The results of the band’s time with the ROKITs can be heard on their newest album, “Where Only The Truth Is Spoken,” which was released June 20. “This album is the truest representation yet of who we are,” adds Hall. “We’re proud of every record we’ve made, but this one… it feels like a massive step up. The production is polished, but it hasn’t lost the raw edge that makes Malevolence, well, Malevolence.”

Of course, Hall says, credit also goes to their producer, Josh Wilbur, whose resume stretches from hardcore acts like Malevolence to pop megastars like Pink. “He flew over from the U.S. and worked with us right here, which was really important,” Hall continues. “Being in our space, surrounded by our own environment, kept us sounding like us. Josh didn’t come in and try to rewrite what Malevolence should sound like; he just helped elevate it.”

That authenticity is built on years of brotherhood. Bassist Charlie Thorpe and Drummer Wilkie Robinson started the band when they were just 11 years old. Hall and fellow guitarist Josh Baines joined in 2009. The lineup was locked in place in 2010, when vocalist Alex Taylor rounded out the team. From Sheffield gigs to European tours, that subsequently stretched across Asia and Australia, the group has steadily carved out its place on the global metal stage. “We’ve pretty much been everywhere now, except South America,” Hall laments. “That’s still on the bucket list.”

The exhibition invites attendees to express their innermost thoughts in a unique, real-time interactive experience, which is enhanced by Aldrey’s expertly designed sound system.

Aldrey, who specializes in mixing and mastering, took on the challenge of designing the fully immersive audio setup utilizing the museum’s existing stock of 28 ROKIT G4 10-3 monitors. “KRK worked so well in the room and sounded incredible as a PA speaker,” he says. “The 10-3s have a large bandwidth and sound close to the full range that Dolby® wants you to have for a setup. This made the installation easier because we could depend on fewer subs to fill the room.”

Aldrey also shared, “I discovered that I could achieve the essential home theater calibration of Dolby using the 10-3s, which streamlined the installation process beautifully. The ROKITs are powerful enough to fill the art exhibit space with vibrant sound.”

The immersive audio-visual experience allows exhibition-goers to connect more personally with the narrative unfolding around them. By scanning a QR code, attendees can contribute their thoughts, enriching the communal dialogue inspired by the display. “Everyone who has come to view the immersive room loves the ROKITs. They are great speakers,” Aldrey adds, highlighting the positive response he received about visitors’ experiences.

“Getting the chance to sit and really absorb the sound of the ROKITs in the room, you start to hear the little nuances, and it makes a huge difference in the audio quality,” says Marc Aptakin, Founder of MAD Arts. “The KRKs truly exceeded my expectations.”

MAD Arts is dedicated to making art accessible for all and believes in leveraging technology for social good. With its commitment to educational initiatives and inclusive programming, the museum continues to foster a lively community that champions creativity, innovation, and collaboration.

Aldrey has over 30 years of experience in mixing and mastering, with various collaborations such as mixing for the 2019 Latin GRAMMY® Alternative song “Tócamela” by Los Amigos Invisibles and two Emmy nominations for mixing the documentary “America First — Postville.” He first received notoriety in 2000, when he was nominated for a GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY®, both as recording and mix engineer. After mixing several more albums, he received a Latin GRAMMY® nomination in 2014 for “Record of the Year” for his mastering work on “Escultura” by Guaco. Aldrey has worked with artists including Duran Duran, Ladytron, Stereophonics, Soul Coughing, Tom Vek, and Superthriller, among others.

A talented electronic composer and multi-disciplinary artist, Cooper is also a music label founder and former scientist who has carved out a unique space in music and visual art. He has used his over 15 years of experience in music and collaborations, as well as through his label Mesh, to explore the intersections between the arts and sciences with installations, performances, immersive experiences, online media, music videos, and live events.

Born in Chorwon and based in Seoul,  Minjeong completed her residency program in Korea at the Cheongju Art Studio. She has exhibited on her own throughout Korea and as part of group exhibitions in Korea, Taiwan, China, the United Kingdom, Poland, and the United States. Kirklewski is the author of interactive light installations, music videos, generative animations, physical art pieces, and projects in public spaces. He uses new technologies, programming, and advertising media, focusing mostly on the digital and generative art field.

MAD Arts invites the general public to visit, experience various exhibitions, and become immersed in a groundbreaking blend of art and technology, including the current “On Being” display. For more information about MAD Arts and upcoming exhibitions, visit: yeswearemadarts.com.

Whether it’s through his viral hits or high-energy TikTok dance challenges, Johhny G continues to push musical boundaries. His upcoming single, “Human,” is set to drop on July 11, and you can bet it’s been fine-tuned on a pair of KRKs.

Johhny G has had a passion for music since he was a child, learning various instruments, singing in the school choir, and making beats in his college dorm room, which is where he discovered his love for mixing. Music has also been a way for him to bond with his dad, who he says, “worked a lot of Saturday nights and would be off playing music for hours. Music has always kept us connected.”

As someone with a passion for both creating and producing music, Johhny G is a unique artist with a strong ear for quality sound and diverse musical interests. Instead of trying to box himself into a certain category, Johhny G leaves it up to his music and creates based on feeling, regardless of what label it suits. Marshmellow Skies state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos facility pioneers immersive music production with KRK

Recording studio provides immersive experience for music lovers with the help of KRK studio monitors and subwoofers

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA, JUNE 18, 2025 ― Marshmellow Skies Recording Studio, recognized for its professional production and development services, recently opened as a cutting-edge recording facility equipped with Dolby Atmos capabilities. Led by GRAMMY®-winning Record Producer and Engineer Ken Caillat, Chief Engineer Claus Trelby, and Business Manager Nitanee Paris, the studio aims to elevate the musical experience for both artists and listeners.

In response to the increasing demand for immersive audio, the studio underwent a comprehensive redesign. “We built a new studio from the ground up, designing the control room specifically for immersive audio mixing,” says Trelby. “Our innovative setup includes KRK V8 and V6 Studio Monitors and KRK Subwoofers, which together ensure reliability across all volume levels. This allows artists to be fully immersed in the dynamics of their music as they create.”

Key features of the new studio include a meticulously designed control room and a reference theater with a 7.1.4 configuration, which enables rich audio experiences during sessions. “We also have a 9.1.6 setup with the KRK V8s on the horizontal and the V6s above us, along with two subwoofer cabinets on a single channel. The KRKs are great and able to handle the demands of both low and high-volume levels,” emphasized Trelby. “Working in such a space inspires creativity and aids in the transition to immersive audio formats.”

Marshmellow Skies has already made significant waves in the industry with projects like Joni Mitchell’s award-winning “Live at Newport” and Jazz Guitarist David Becker’s “Gravitationally Bound.” The studio’s new immersive audio environment allows for seamless recording and mixing. “The KRK speakers are integral to achieving this dynamic sound quality, allowing for both subtle and powerful audio without compromising the integrity of the music,” says Caillat.

Caillat elaborated on the importance of the KRK speakers used in the setup, sharing that “they are affordable speakers and sound great, too. They are beneficial for Dolby®—light, airy, and transparent.” Trelby echoes his sentiments, adding: “The KRKs translate really well, and I trust them. They are flat enough that it’s easy to EQ them to any production curve that we would need to, and we don’t have to reach far to hit these curves.”

Subwoofers are also an important part of any immersive room. “A subwoofer must be tight. You can’t have any residual waves coming out of them,” explains Trelby. “That is why the KRK subs are so great; they give you what you want and deliver a full and immersive audio experience.”

“Feedback from listeners has been overwhelmingly positive,” adds Paris. “Many people have shown a lot of emotion while experiencing the immersive audio for the first time, sharing with us how it transformed how they will listen to music in the future.”

KRK ROKIT and GoAux monitors revolutionize sound and creativity for TUMBAO

World Sounds Event & DJ Collective Founder Albert Piedrahita sets the stage for sonic innovation

MIAMI, MAY 19, 2025 ― During his rise as a DJ and Event Producer, Albert Piedrahita recognized a gap in the local nightlife that was waiting to be explored. He was inspired by his relocation to Los Angeles, which had a lively, thriving music scene and encouraged him to start TUMBAO. A homegrown, Miami-based DJ collective that brings people together through culture, dance, and sound from around the world, TUMBAO invites seasoned dancers and curious newcomers alike to join the rhythm and feel the joy of community. Driven by a vision to ignite a revolution in sound and culture, TUMBAO breaks away from the ordinary to redefine expectations and leave audiences hungry for more.

“I wanted to integrate music from around the world into one party; TUMBAO is a culmination of all those different sounds,” explains Piedrahita, who recently celebrated the Third Anniversary of this innovative DJ collective. “We’ve seen such a big success with our events because we honor all the diverse music and individuals under one roof, which makes for a unique dynamic. We’ve also taken the experience to different cities around the U.S. and the world. This year’s Miami anniversary event was especially important; it was the first time we had a major sponsor and our largest party to date.”

With such a lively event and uplifting experience as TUMBAO, Piedrahita needs reliable equipment to create powerful sound both in his studio and on the road. As a longtime KRK user, he recentlyacquired the brand’s new ROKIT Generation 5 Powered Studio Monitors and GoAux Portable Studio Monitors, which he uses along with hisexisting ROKIT 8 G3 Powered Studio Monitors. He has two setups at home that utilize his KRK gear: one for DJ practice and the other for making remixes and casual listening.

With the KRK speakers providing powerful sound, the atmosphere at the TUMBAO events is electric, inviting everyone present to dance and immerse themselves in the vibrant rhythms that echo throughout the venues. “KRK plays a big role in every stage of music setup; we use the speakers to create our edits in the studio, and the monitors are also present at the DJ booth,” shares Piedrahita.

Having developed familiarity with the features and capabilities of the KRK ROKITs, Piedrahita believes the monitors enhance all music production projects. “The ROKITs are trustworthy, and I love the sound response; they are affordable as well. You really can’t beat them; they go everywhere with me,” he shares. “When I was first learning to DJ, I visited a friend who had a pair of ROKITs, and I thought they sounded great. As I met more people in the industry, I noticed a lot of peers had similar setups. KRK monitors are great for collaborating and are terrific for consistency, which I appreciate.”

To complement his setup, Piedrahita recently incorporated the KRK GoAux for fast and efficient references. “I love the GoAux because I can easily swap between using them with Bluetooth or through the interface. I use them for my smaller, indoor DJ sets; they power a room easily,” he says. “They are also easy to transport, so I can take them with me if I want to work on the road. They are amazing portable speakers, and I love the power behind them.”

Having collaborated extensively with KRK over the years, Piedrahita has forged a strong relationship with the team. These connections have deepened through shared experiences and a commitment to common goals. “The KRK Miami team is like family to me, and I don’t say that lightly,” he adds. “When I first told Cesar [Acevedo, Director of Artist Relations — U.S. Hispanic and Latin America, Gibson] about TUMBAO, he took the time to come out and see what the collective is all about and was inspired by what I was doing. After that, I became part of the team, representing KRK as a Latino and a DJ.”

TUMBAO draws inspiration from the Afro-Latin roots of late Cuban legend Celia Cruz, who popularized the word tumbao, which refers to one’s inner rhythm or groove. With TUMBAO’s sound influenced by reggaeton, dembow, dancehall, salsa, afro beats, and more, Piedrahita is excited to see the event continue to unite people of diverse cultures and backgrounds. In addition to its annual mecca to its home base in Miami, TUMBAO also makes regular rotations to New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, San Juan, Mexico City, and Medellĺn.

More details about Tumbao’s schedule can be found on the group’s Instagram page: instagram.com/tamotumbao/.

Miami producer redefines Latin music with KRK’s signature sound

Lauro creates unforgettable collaborations with brand’s ROKIT studio monitors and subwoofer

MIAMI, APRIL 15, 2025 ― Renowned Miami-based producer and songwriter Laureano “Lauro” Pardo is making waves in the music industry with his stellar portfolio, which boasts collaborations with some of the biggest names in Latin music, including Arcangel, Myke Towers, Fer Vazquez, and Flor Alvarez. With multiple nominations for GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY® Awards and accolades featuring two-time RIAA Gold and 10-time RIAA Platinum certifications, Lauro’s contributions to music are evident.

Lauro is a passionate creator who has cultivated his unique sound. From the early days of experimenting with music, Lauro’s journey began by collaborating with local bands, which allowed him to hone his craft. “Over time, one of those artists achieved great success, earning awards both nationally and internationally,” he shares. “Thanks to that experience, I managed to come to the United States and fully immerse myself in the music industry.” Lauro’s career, now flourishing, is rooted in a love for sound that he believes has been amplified by his choice of gear.

Equipped with KRK ROKIT 5 Generation 4 Studio Monitors paired with a powerful 10-inch KRK Subwoofer, Lauro explains, “As my studio is not very large, I am very satisfied with the sound I have achieved using my KRK gear. Despite the size, the KRK system fits perfectly in my space and makes me happy. What I like most about the KRK system is that it sounds clean and provides the right amount of sub-bass I need,” he says. “It’s a sound I’m familiar with because it’s the same one I started my career with, so I feel very comfortable.”

This familiarity dates back to Lauro’s formative years. “When I started producing, I watched many tutorials on YouTube and noticed they used KRK monitors,” he says. “One day, at a local music outlet, I came across a pair of KRK monitors and tested them for myself. That was my first experience with the brand, and I have never stopped using it.”

With a reputation for delivering high-quality sound regardless of the environment, KRK monitors and subwoofers have become indispensable to Lauro’s production toolkit. “I always use KRK with all the projects I produce in my studio,” he adds. “Every time I’m asked for a backline for a session, I choose KRK because I know the brand consistently delivers reliable results. The gear has been a great solution for me. The monitors and subwoofers sound good anywhere, and I always trust that the audio will be consistent and true to what I need.”

Top Track Studios unleashes sound innovation with KRK

Studio’s Owner and Lead Engineer, Gibran Sponchiado, elevates Nashville’s music experience with GoAux Portable Studio Monitors

NASHVILLE, MARCH 31, 2025 ― Now in its fifth year, Top Track Studios has been thriving as one of Music City’s prime recording studios. Designed to enhance the city’s evolving sound, the facility has been acoustically set up with creativity, comfort, and elegance in mind. It boasts a wide selection of top audio equipment, from the well-known classic pieces found in all major studios to the newest technologies available today. Additionally, Top Track Studios prides itself on its commitment to service, ensuring that it respects a musician’s artistry by honoring their needs and vision.

“We are heavy on analog processing here at Top Track,” says Studio Owner, CEO, and Lead Engineer Gibran Sponchiado. “Our amazing outboard equipment and microphone collection make us passionate about the type of work we do. Services at the studio include live tracking of full bands; vocal recording and production; mixing; producing solo artists; and recording ADR and voice-over.”

To support this vast array of projects at Top Track, Sponchiado relies on a multi-speaker setup, which features a pair of KRK GoAux 4 Portable Studio Monitors for referencing in his control room, as well as creating seamless communication with remote collaborators. Notably, KRK’s parent company, Gibson, has recorded promotional videos for the new Les Paul Studio Guitars at Top Track.

“The KRK GoAux sound great and have balanced frequency response, despite the small size,” says Sponchiado. “In a studio, you always need a speaker that can handle loud sounds with extra headroom to avoid distortion on loud transients. When I first sought a small set of speakers for the studio, a friend of mine suggested trying out the GoAux. I bought myself a pair, and they are a great addition to Top Track’s setup.”

Sponchiado goes on to explain that his team also relies on the GoAux speakers for sessions with remote clients. “If we are working with a producer in California who wants to direct the recording sessions in real-time, it’s important to have our client’s feed in an alternative set of speakers in order to separate the communication from the actual session material.”

Sponchiado also admires the sleek design and modern aesthetics of the KRK GoAux monitors, finding their appearance both appealing and distinctive. “The GoAux matches the vision of the studio and goes great with the wooden elements we have throughout the space,” he adds. “We want to make art here at Top Track, and it is important to have speakers that make an impact on the artists and people who come here, both visually and auditorily. The GoAux speakers are equipped with Bluetooth® capabilities, which allow us to quickly let clients play some of their music from their phones or laptops without having to hook up anything physically.”

A devoted audio enthusiast and true maestro of analog gear, Sponchiado blends his wealth of audio expertise with his passion for music and has forged a reputation for excellence over his extensive 20-year career. As a highly skilled Brazilian Producer and Recording/Mixing Engineer, Sponchiado also specializes in serving the region’s Latin communities, bringing a unique cultural perspective and deep understanding of diverse musical styles to his work. Artists looking to elevate their sound will ask to collaborate with Sponchiado because of his commitment to quality and creativity.

Sponchiado got his start as an audio engineer in 2004. He earned a bachelor’s in music education from Universidade Estadual do Rio Grande do Sul (UERGS) in Brazil in 2008 and an MFA in recording arts and technologies from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in 2016. Some of his past clients include R&B artist Jeremih, Pedro Capó (Sony Music), Rome Ramirez, Brittney Spencer (Elektra Entertainment), Finesse2tymes (Atlantic Records), rapper Rocko, actress Ariel Winter, and actors Luke Benward and Chris Mason. Record labels Top Track worked for include Sony Music, Universal Music, Warner Music, Atlantic Records, and 300 Entertainment, among others. He’s also done ADR and voiceover sessions for production companies such as Monster Factory (Resident Evil Franchise) and Wolf Studios (Doctor Who).

Today, Sponchiado approaches every session with a commitment to precision and quality that ensures each project not only meets but exceeds expectations, making him an asset in the world of sound and for Top Track Studios clients.

Los Angeles’ iconic Sound Factory installs custom mains with KRK and legendary Acoustician George Augspurger

LOS ANGELES, MARCH 10, 2025 ― Originally opened in the early 1960s as Moonglow Records, The Sound Factory name was coined by Producer David Hassinger, who purchased the studio in 1969. A little over a decade later, the studio was sold to Sunset Sound Recorders’ owners Paul and Tutti Camarata, who ran the facility until it was sold in 2017. After 60 years of serving the music industry, LA’s Sound Factory boasts a history of working with some of the world’s greatest artists. Among these are Marvin Gaye, the Jackson 5, and Linda Ronstadt in the 60s and 70s; Sheryl Crow and Red Hot Chili Peppers at the turn of the century; Doja Cat, SZA, and Mark Ronson, as well as artists currently working with Sound Factory’s own record label.

In an effort to keep up with the changes in technology and musical styles, the studio’s current leadership sought to upgrade the space while still paying homage to its history. In doing so, they connected with George Augspurger to create new mains for the facility’s two recording studios. The legendary acoustician and speaker designer had previously designed aspects of the Sound Factory during its expansion in the 1970s, and his experience in the studio was a perfect complement to the upgrade. After designing the new custom mains, Augspurger worked in collaboration with Craig Hockenberry, Gibson Director of Product Development, Pro Audio,to have the speakers built. Augspurger’s expansive pro audio knowledge, coupled with Hockenberry’s expertise in designing and building Gibson’s KRK monitors, proved to be ideal for this unique project.

“After they had run the studio for about a year, [the present owners] asked me what would be involved in designing custom monitors for Studio A, the original room,” says Augspurger. “The room itself was one that I had designed, but it [now] had standard commercial monitors in it. So, using the components of the so-called ‘Augspurger monitor,’ we created a design for the room. Then, more recently, they wanted to upgrade the monitors in Studio B. The same design was physically able to be accommodated [in both rooms,] so we went ahead and [designed] the retrofit in Studio B as well.”

While the process was straightforward, designing, creating, and deploying Sound Factory’s new mains was a labor of love that evolved over three years. “The main thing [to consider] in designing a custom monitor is that you have the freedom to make the cabinet dimensions fit the space available,” adds Augspurger, with regards to the unique soffits from the original monitors. “I know how to design speaker cabinets, so that part was easy. The choice of components is done in cooperation with the owner, the people who will be using the speakers. This is the first installation I’ve done with KRK…and all I can tell you is there were absolutely no glitches, no problems. They delivered what I asked for.”

For Gibson/KRK’s role in the project, Hockenberry and his team set to work building the monitors to Augspurger’s specifications. “We worked with George on the monitors from the beginning, which was a real pleasure,” says Hockenberry. “We had the designs worked out by the second call with him, and we built both pairs in our prototype shop here in Nashville. Once we had George’s seal of approval on everything, we coordinated with Sound Factory Studio Manager Cameell Hanna to get the speakers sent to their new home in Hollywood, where George helped oversee the final installation.”

Like nearly all of Augspurger’s prior speaker designs, the custom pairs of KRK mains at Sound Factory feature a wooden, high-frequency horn. “The actual speaker components, such as the high-frequency drivers and woofers, are standard commercial products,” he explains. “The woofers are made by TAD, the professional products division of Pioneer, which I have used in most of my custom installations for the past 20 years. The high-frequency driver, which is comprised of beryllium, is made in the U.S. by Radian.”

The connection between Augspurger and Gibson/KRK was not one of happenstance. Instead, it was the result of many conversations Hanna had with his friend and colleague Rae Vinton, who leads Entertainment Relations for Gibson LA. “I told Rae about the upgrade and working with George, and she immediately asked if we wanted to do something with KRK,” says Hanna. “We already collaborate a lot together, so I thought it would be perfect.”

For Hockenberry, it was a symbiotic relationship that evolved into an incredible project. “Sound Factory is an amazing space that has produced innumerable legendary hits from countless icons; that, combined with George’s status in the industry, really solidified our decision to move forward with this project,” he says. “KRK represents premium sonic quality, and these custom mains emphasize the capabilities of our engineering team to create solutions that compete with other high-end manufacturers. We are humbled that KRK is now a part of the Sound Factory legacy and the many creative masterpieces that will be coming out of those rooms.”

“The funny thing about this place, for better or worse, I’m still not sure which it is, is that everything here is completely custom, even the general ‘living’ spaces,” explains Hanna. “Every aspect of this place is unique, nothing is a standard size, including the speaker system, so it’s difficult when we want to change something. But we wanted to honor the custom nature of the facility with our upgrades, and working with George, Craig, Rae, and the entire Gibson/KRK team, we’ve been able to accomplish that.”

LOS ANGELES, FEBRUARY 11, 2025 ― Dylan Newman, Manager of Music and Talent at Nickelodeon and Artist Manager at NewManagement, is elevating his artist development strategy and audio production quality with KRK GoAux Portable Monitors and ROKIT 8 Generation Five Studio Monitors. With a rich history in artist discovery, development, and management, Dylan’s hands-on approach to audio finds perfect synergy with the KRK solutions, which are essential tools in his creative process.

Newman’s music journey began early, from self-taught drums and guitar to discovering his passion for music behind the scenes. Starting out as part of Purdue University’s Student Concert Committee, he quickly learned the ins and outs of concert promotion by working with high-profile acts like Luke Bryan and Macklemore. Newman’s exposure to A&R began with an internship at Sony Music, leading to roles at Columbia Records and Epic Records, where he was fortunate enough to contribute to projects for top artists like Travis Scott, Camila Cabello, and Future. “Artist development is in my blood,” says Newman, a value he extends to emerging talents like LOCS and PIAO at NewManagement and acts like Pressley Hosbach and Young Dylan at Nickelodeon’s music department.

Newman was first introduced to KRK by friends at Gibson, who gave him a first-hand look at KRK’s trusted performance in professional studios and artist setups. “When I first saw the GoAuxes, I recognized how the portability and minimal setup requirements made it easy to ensure audio quality from home to office or anywhere on the road,” he says. “They deliver the same natural and balanced frequency response that has become synonymous with the KRK name in a mobile-friendly package. Meanwhile, the ROKIT 8 Generation Five provides the precision and customization I need for mixing and refining audio to professional standards.”

Newman attributes much of his success to the sonic integrity that his KRK speakers provide. “I love my KRKs,” he continues. “They give my artists and me the clarity we need throughout the recording, mixing, and mastering stages. The GoAux speakers are portable yet powerful, fitting seamlessly into my busy schedule. The ROKIT 8 Generation Fives are my go-to for my home studio, allowing me to dig in and ensure top-quality production for my artists. In addition, the black and gold design is a staple in the industry; it’s become synonymous with quality.”

The KRK ROKIT Generation Five monitors are the most advanced in their class. Whether working on a chart-topping hit, a film score, or a personal project, the ROKITs provide the tools needed to capture every nuance of a user’s sound with astonishing clarity. The monitors’ onboard DSP technology provides three distinct Voicing Modes: Mix Mode, Create Mode, and Focus Mode, eliminating the need for separate sets of monitors for different tasks.

Newman’s dedication to sound is evident in his work at Nickelodeon’s music department, where he develops music for the brand’s record label, manages talent releases, and supports major events like the Kids’ Choice Awards. According to Newman, “Whether I’m listening to demos for Nickelodeon or refining LOCS’s latest tracks, KRK ensures that every sound detail is accurately represented. My partnership with KRK and Gibson has been essential in bringing quality audio to all my projects.”

Cult of Magic creates haunting performances with KRK GoAux

MILAN, JANUARY 29, 2025 ― Cult of Magic is an interdisciplinary artistic collective based in Milan, Italy, specializing in creating immersive performances that blend contemporary dance, music, and performance art into a unique, captivating experience. Known for its innovative approach to exploring profound themes through movement, sound, and light, the group often collaborates with prestigious European cultural institutions.

The group was founded in 2017 by Composer and Director Francesco Sacco, along with Samira Cogliandro and Giada Vailati, who both choreograph and dance for the collective. The three founding members were later joined by Luca Pasquino, who is also a director and composer.

Cult of Magic’s recent project, “FEAR OF THE DARK – first study,” was performed with an immersive light and sound design, with the goal of heightening and enriching guests’ other senses during the show, which took place inside a former church in Venice. To elevate the musical aspect of their performance, the collective relied on KRK GoAux Portable Studio Monitors to ensure that every note and rhythm resonated beautifully.

Directed by Sacco, Vailati, and Pasquino, “FEAR OF THE DARK” was choreographed and performed by Vailati, while Sacco and Pasquino created the original score. “For this project, we needed a completely different audio system because of the natural reverb of the venue,” says Sacco. “We decided to use KRK speakers not just to compose the original score but also as the PA during the show. We used three pairs of GoAux monitors for the performance, which resulted in a punctual sound and avoided the rumble of a classic stereo sound system in a big space.”

With the GoAux, the team created an immersive atmosphere that captivated the audience. “After studying the church layout, we were able to easily integrate the KRK speakers into the space with four positioned towards the audience and two facing the apse,” adds Pasquino. “The GoAux allowed us to achieve a sound that was immersive and airy but also well-defined.”

Sacco and the members of the Cult of Magic collective consider the GoAux to be unique within its genre. The monitors’ design and capabilities resonate with Cult of Magic’s artistic visions, making the speakers a standout choice for the group’s creative endeavors.

“I found the GoAux to be very defined and sharp; the sound quality is impressive for smaller speakers,” says Sacco. “I have never found portable speakers with such a professional sound level. They also have great volume control despite their size, so that helped us to reach the exact result we wanted for the project. The GoAux are also super light and easy to carry around, which is critical when you have to move around in a city like Venice, with no possibility of transporting your gear by car.”

With Bluetooth capabilities and an impressive array of features, the monitors offer a perfect blend of convenience and performance that make it an ideal choice when the group is on the go. “The Bluetooth connection works perfectly, even when we are using it with low frequencies; the speakers perform well and deliver a rich and full sound,” says Pasquino. “There’s no comparison to other portable Bluetooth speakers I’ve tried, both in terms of sound balance and definition. Moreover, these speakers allow me to mix music anywhere I want.”

Sacco has been a devoted user of KRK products for years, showcasing a deep familiarity and appreciation for the brand’s offerings. “I learned about KRK from other musicians and colleagues in the industry and have been using the gear for a while now,” he shares. “The first pair of monitors I owned were the KRK ROKITs, which I still use in my home studio today.” Pasquino is also well-acquainted with the brand. “KRK speakers were the first monitors I bought for making music productions,” he explains. “Since then, I have developed a very personal sound, partly because of those speakers, and I still have not replaced them.”

Looking ahead, Cult of Magic is eager to resume its creative momentum by integrating KRK gear into future projects. “All the music we compose for any Cult of Magic project is made on KRK monitors. We want to continue experimenting with spatialized sound using a large number of small speakers,” says Sacco.

The group is currently working on an electronic/techno album, using KRK for composing and mixing. The group also plans to incorporate KRK for its future performances and projects, such as the continuation of “FEAR OF THE DARK.” In the next few months, the group will bring the project to a further development phase that will include a cast of five performers, set design work, and a sound installation that will be inaugurated in Milan next May.

Today, he is the producer, mixing and recording engineer, and live sound engineer for multi-award-winning Artist and Songwriter Camilo, a fellow Colombian. In addition to his credits in the music industry, Ramirez also composes and provides sound design for films, documentaries, TV series, and animated shows.

For Ramirez, music and sound effects have always crisscrossed as a single entity in his creative workflow. His appreciation for the vast array of cultures that span this world and the influence each has on music has continually inspired him to create a unique identity for all his projects. To aid in his mastery, Ramirezrelies on his KRK V4 and V6 V-Series 4 Powered Studio Monitors, which he says, “are very dynamic and rich in sound, so I can always get the right vibe of the track.”

As someone who focuses on sonic quality, it is critical that Ramirez has a realistic-sounding pair of speakers. “During the mixing process, I need speakers that sound good, and are easy and quick to use,” he explains. “My V6s are not too bright, and they aren’t too low; they work well and sound great. The V4s have a smaller diaphragm that translates well to a variety of listening scenarios, so I can assess how my tracks will sound in any other environment. Whether my songs are being played in a theater, through consumer-grade headphones, at an airport, or in the car, I know what I’m hearing on the V-Series will be what audiences experience as well.”

For times when Ramirez has been on the road running front of house for Camilo, his KRK V-Series monitors serve a dual purpose as nearfield speakers. “The monitors are vibrant and tend to have solid sound quality in loud situations, which is important for a concert tour,” he adds.

Never one to stray too far from his producer role, Ramirez uses KRK GoAux Portable Powered Studio Monitors for studio work on the go. “I travel a lot when I am on tour, and I like to have a solution that is easy to set up on the road,” he explains. “The KRK GoAux sound great, and the carrying case they come in is amazing. I never have to worry about where I am going to store all the pieces.” Whether in the studio or on the road, Ramirez also relies on KRK’s KNS Headphones when listening back on his mixes. “The KRK Headphones have a very particular boost on the mids and mid-lows, so I use them to check my tracks in that range,” he adds. “It helps me assess if I have everything under control.”

As a longtime KRK user, Ramirez reflected on when he initially heard KRK monitors, at his first studio job. “I will always remember seeing the beautiful speakers with the yellow cone; I felt great listening to the music come out of those ROKIT 8s,” he reminisces. “The speakers sounded terrific, and I just knew they were a quality product. That was back in 2009, and I have been using KRK ever since. KRK continues to be a top-notch brand that has easy and affordable solutions for beginners, as well as higher-end solutions for professionals.”

Ramirez graduated with a degree in audio engineering from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, in Bogota, Colombia, and later earned his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in sound design from Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. From 2018 to 2021, Ramirez was the head recording and mixing engineer at Art House, GRAMMY Award-winner Julio Reyes Copello’s studio. Now, as an independent producer, Ramirez continues to use his array of KRK gear while in the studio and on the road, and his KRK GoAux monitors for personal listening applications.

ALT BLK ERA rocks out with KRK CLASSIC 5 Powered Studio Monitors

NOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND, DECEMBER 10, 2024 ― Sibling alt-duo Nyrobi and Chaya Beckett-Messam, also known as ALT BLK ERA, recently wrapped their debut album “Rave Immortal,” which they recorded using their new KRK CLASSIC 5 Powered Studio Monitors. The album features a captivating collection of songs with a fusion of genres, combining the raw energy ofrock, the rhythmic pulse of electronica, and the haunting allure of dark pop. Each track reflects the sisters’ artistic evolution and deep-rooted connection, inviting listeners to experience an immersive soundscape.

From an early age, Nyrobi and Chaya sensed they shared a unique bond through music. Whether harmonizing with their favorite songs on the radio or creating their own melodies, the sisters soon discovered the power of their voices. Thus, ALT BLK ERA was formed, making a powerful entrance into the music scene with the release of the duo’s debut single, “Slowly Die: SOLAR,” in 2022. According to the pair, “the rest is history.”

Nyrobi and Chaya were introduced to KRK when they noticed that many well-respected musicians around them were using the monitors. Intrigued by the positive vibe surrounding KRK, the sisters decided to test out the brand. “We were in search of a pair of high-quality speakers that would last a long time. KRK came highly recommended,” says Chaya. “After hearing the CLASSICs for the first time, we were pleasantly surprised and knew we needed to get ourselves a pair; it was a game-changer.”

The ALT BLK ERA duo also discovered that the monitors significantly enhanced their production process, which helped them craft their debut album with newfound clarity and precision. “We were starting to produce ourselves, and the CLASSICs allowed us to be more technical and take the necessary next step in our musical journey,” says Nyrobi. “Whether we are producing or mixing, the KRKs bring out elements of our music that can be easily missed with conventional headphones or car speakers. From our wild DnB/metal style to our softer ALT pop/rock songs, the KRK CLASSICs help elevate our fans’ music listening experience to the next level.”

One of ALT BLK ERA’s favorite features of the CLASSICs is the system volume control, which provides seamless adjustments to sound levels. This allows them to dial in the perfect volume and enhance their overall listening experience. “I love the volume feature,” says Chaya. “The fact you can turn up the bass is awesome, and you can mix on the speakers as well. The monitors really helped us get our album to sound right.”

The sisters add that the KRK CLASSICs were instrumental in bringing the debut ALT BLK ERA album to life. “The CLASSICs will definitely be featured in our second album,” says Nyrobi. “I will not make any decisions without listening to our songs on those monitors first. If we hadn’t used them for ‘Rave Immortal,’ the album would have sounded completely different; the KRKs gave us a unique perspective that I think we really needed. The CLASSICs are next-level and offer a truly immersive experience. The next project that we do is going to be KRK certified for sure.”

Chaya, one-half of the power duo, plays guitar in addition to singing. She uses an Epiphone Les Paul, which she plans to bring when they go on tour.“I was first introduced to this guitar when we attended Gibson Garage London’s opening day,” she shares. “I had the opportunity to try various models and was drawn to the Les Paul. I played it for the first time during the 200trees Music Festival and have loved it ever since.”

ALT BLK ERA is set to make waves with the highly anticipated release, “Rave Immortal,” which is available for pre-order now and will drop on January 24, 2025. Fans won’t want to miss the duo’s album launch party in Nottingham on January 26, where they will bring the energy and excitement of their new music to life. Additionally, they will hit the stage in London on January 30 for another performance. ALT BLK ERA also recently announced a tour to promote the album, with dates in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Southampton, and London.

Rudy Bethancourt upgrades his audio game to Dolby Atmos with KRK

Brand’s monitors, subwoofers, and headphones deliver quality results while mixing for both music and television

MIAMI, DECEMBER 3, 2024 ― Rudy Bethancourt is a GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY®-winningaudio engineer, music producer, and show programmerwith over 25 years of experience in the industry. His impressive portfolio includes collaborations with renowned artists such as Ricky Martin, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Scott Stapp, Carlos Vives, Kany Garcia, Carlos Rivera, Ivy Queen, Ricardo Arjona, Lorde, and Fall Out Boy. Bethancourt’s musical journey began in Guatemala, where he initially made his mark as a musician and band member. His passion led him to also explore the fields of engineering and production.

Bethancourt recently decided it was time to enhance his audio expertise even further by making the transition from stereo to surround at his new Dolby Atmos recording studio, Nine Lives Immersive. To accommodate the immersive projects on which he works, Bethancourt invested in three KRK V6 Series 4 Powered Studio Monitors, as well as ten V4 Series 4,and one pair of V8 Series 4. In addition to his trusted monitors, Bethancourt has two pairs of KRK KNS 8400 Studio Headphones, an S12.4 Powered Studio Subwoofer, and two pairs of a previous generation of V8s.

Nine Lives Immersive features a 9.1.4 Atmos configuration with four monitors mounted on the ceiling, six on stands on the ground, and three on his desk in a left, center, and right arrangement. “The V-Series already sound good on their own; they are transparent, which is important for Atmos,” he explains. “The monitors can adapt to different styles of music, and when you pair them with the S12 Subwoofer, you can get great low end. Even if you don’t use the sub, the V-Series monitors still sound excellent.”

In his studio, Bethancourt embraces transparency as a fundamental principle of his artistic workflow. “One thing I love about the V8s specifically is the low-end extension you get without a subwoofer,” he shares. “They are very straightforward sounding and are overall amazing monitors. There is something about the stereo image that you get when you place them in the perfect position—just wow. Also, when you bring the loudness level down while mixing, the monitors translate well in that low volume environment.”

In addition to his KRK monitors, Bethancourt tunes in with his KNS 8400s headphones. The sound quality of the KRK headphones ensures that every detail of his tracks comes to life, allowing him to immerse himself fully into his creative process. “What I found with the KNS is that they have a more natural response,” he explains. “They are great for tracking vocals because they have this little curve in the mid-highs with nice high end and little low end. Overall, they have a very flat frequency response.”

“Most of the broadcast mixes I worked on for the TV Show ‘La Voz US, Tu Cara Me Suena’ and the Celia Cruz tribute performed by Jennifer Lopez for the American Music Awards, plus multiple mixes for various Latin GRAMMYs live performances, were created with KRK V8s,” he explains. “I also recorded, vocal engineered, and mixed Season 2of theHBO show called ‘A Tiny Audience,’ for which I used the V8s as well. The transient response of the V-Series is so good; when you are in a big room, you can reach 85 dB, and they sound terrific. When you have a smaller room, like mine, there’s a different dB range, so you have to mix at lower volumes. What I like about the V-Series is that the transient response can continue at both the low and high volumes when I push it. These monitors give me that consistency in detail and allow a mid-range that most other speakers can’t.”

In addition to his exciting TV projects, Bethancourt utilizes his KRKs to assist fellow musicians in transforming their music from stereo to the immersive world of Atmos. “I have been using my Dolby Atmos room a lot to help friends who don’t have the budget to translate their old catalog into Atmos,” he shares. “I have also been working with various independent artists to bring their discography up to Dolby specifications because it is so new and an extra cost for them.”

Bethancourt is a longtime KRK user and has worked with the brand for over 15 years. He has been a part of the KRK/Gibson family since 2007 and expresses his gratitude for the incredible support he’s received from the company over the years. “They are like one big family,” he says, highlighting the close-knit community he’s found within the brand. Looking ahead, Bethancourt is excited to keep pushing boundaries, utilizing his trusted KRK monitors, subwoofers, and headphones as he delves deeper into the innovative world of Dolby Atmos.

Jamaican Record Producer Major Seven shapes the landscape of music production with KRK GoAux

ATLANTA, NOVEMBER 12, 2024 ― Omar Walker, better known as Major Seven, is a distinguished multi-platinum record producer, songwriter, musician, and visionary whose music profoundly reflects his Jamaican culture. His extraordinary journey in the music industry began under the mentorship of R&B legend Keith Sweat, culminating in a pivotal moment when he produced “The Devil Is a Lie,” featuring Jay-Z, the lead single from Rick Ross’s sixth studio album, “Mastermind.”

Throughout his illustrious career, Major Seven has also collaborated with an impressive range of artists, including Future, Rihanna, DJ Khaled, and DJ Snake, earning numerous Gold® and Platinum® certifications from the RIAA. His unique approach to music production, blended with his talent and commitment to collaboration, led to the creation of “The Major7eague,” a global collective of dedicated and gifted creatives.

Major Seven is involved in several exciting projects across the Caribbean, particularly in Jamaica and other islands. For these, he relies on his KRK GoAux Mobile Monitoring System and KNS 8402 Studio Headphones. He has alsorecently acquired ROKIT Generation Five Studio Monitors, the newest addition to the brand’s product line. “KRK speakers are very integrated into Jamaican studios since the color scheme is similar to the Jamaican flag, which is black, yellow, and green,” he says. “They are great quality, versatile speakers. My KRKs are always able to provide a creative solution to any problems I may have.”

In partnership with Vas Productions, Major Seven is also working on a fusion project of hip-hop and reggae that represents his newfound purpose. “Since I can set them up anywhere, the KRK GoAux have been crucial to this project; they are great because I can quickly catch a vibe, prepare ideas, and get things ready for the artist,” he explains. “I’ve traveled to several places around the world for this project, and I always have the speakers with me, whether I am in Prague, London, Jamaica, or somewhere else. The speakers came in handy to get that studio feel, especially when collaborating with an artist on the road. I always want to have that playback available and get the people who are in the room engaged. With the KRK GoAux, I can do that everywhere, which makes them a valuable asset.”

For Major Seven, the quality and portability of the KRK GoAux are especially important on this project. “The way you can just pack the speakers into the case is key because they don’t take up too much space. I’m one of those people who is always overpacking. I don’t know how long I’m going to end up being away, or if I’ll end up staying longer than expected. So, to be able to fit the GoAux in my suitcase and not make my luggage overweight is amazing.”

As someone who appreciates a good aesthetic, Major Seven was also drawn to KRK’s iconic yellow cones. “The design itself is cool,” he adds. “I’m all about colors, lighting, and vibe, so the overall look of the speakers is inspiring.” Thanks to his KRKs, Major Seven can continue to produce studio-quality work even when on the go. “The GoAux are perfect for working on the road and being able to emulate some of that feeling of being in the studio,” he adds. “They sound great, and they’re even louder than expected. I also appreciate the fact that you can angle the speakers for different listening positions.”

According to Major Seven, the album, titled “Life of a Ghetto Yute III,” “seamlessly blends the consciousness of reggae with hip-hop’s raw essence, vividly portraying life in the ghetto. The album captures the spirit of Rasta culture and reggae, with tracks like ‘Pray’ and ‘Life of a Ghetto Yute’ offering rays of hope, while ‘City of Sin’ and ‘96 Degrees’ explore the grittier aspects of ghetto life. Featuring contributions from reggae legends like Sizzla and Beenie Man to hip-hop’s Rapsody, this album is a rich tapestry of voices and narratives, inviting listeners on a profound journey through the heart of the ghetto.” “Believe,” featuring dancehall artist Prince Swanny, is the first single to be released off the album and is available to listeners now on all major streaming platforms.

The KRK KNS Headphones have also been a game changer for Major Seven throughout his production process and during sessions with other artists. “I’m really impressed with the headphones. They’re incredibly comfortable, allowing me to work for long hours without any strain on my ears while delivering precise audio detail,’ he says. “The isolation is excellent, which is essential for the recording process. Artists I’ve worked with also enjoy using them and appreciate the clarity the headphones provide.”

In addition to being well-known in the music production world, Major Seven takes pride in his entrepreneurial efforts. He serves as an Owner and Director of Partnerships for WAVS, an innovative music-tech platform that transforms the way sample creators monetize their work. WAVS curates an exclusive collection of high-quality, royalty-based samples from the top five percent of creators. By offering this resource to beatmakers, songwriters, and producers, the company is setting a new industry standard for both creative empowerment and workflow efficiency. “To be able to get those kinds of wins with the people who you really believe in is very impactful and meaningful,” he shares. “To be able to also mentor them and share what I know and what I’ve learned in the game to help them reach certain goals faster has been an incredible and fulfilling experience.”

Major Seven continues to be committed to blending cultures and genres that reflect his versatile creativity and unwavering vow to excellence. His career strategy is rooted in meticulous craftsmanship, sustainable growth, and the value of networking. With his passion project, “Life of a Ghetto Yute III,” expected to be released next year, he continues to shape the landscape of music production with his KRKs by his side.

Legendary Mastering Engineer Howie Weinberg Calls on KRK’s Natural Sound in the Studio, On the Road, and at Home

LOS ANGELES, OCTOBER 15, 2024 ― When it comes to audio mastering, Howie Weinberg might know a thing or two. With over 8,600 mastering credits and more than 90 billion streams, 21 GRAMMY® Awards (58 total nominations), three TEC Awards, two Juno Awards, and a Mercury Prize on his resume, the mastering engineer is a legend in his own right. Having worked with some of the biggest names in music across nearly every genre, from hip-hop, alternative, and R&B to rock, pop, heavy metal, and EDM, Weinberg’s name is synonymous with iconic albums like Nirvana’s Nevermind, Madonna’s Music, and Beastie Boys’ Licensed to Ill.

Today, after more than four decades in the industry, Weinberg is still doing what he does best, from his professional home studio in Laurel Canyon, California. “We’re in the heart of an eclectic artistic area, there’s a big recording scene here, and we’re surrounded by a lot of other famous creatives,” he explains. “The house was an old hunting lodge, built in 1910; it has a lot of energy and a great vibe. I have a personal studio here that’s as nice as any commercial space I’ve worked in, along with two other studios on the property. It’s very California.”

No matter where he sets up shop, Weinberg has continually called on KRK monitors throughout his career, today relying on KRK V-Series in the studio. “I was one of the original KRK users; when they first were released, the founder himself introduced me to the original 7000 Series speakers,” he says. “KRK has always been the number one speaker for audiophiles to have in their kits. There was something magical about that original set, and the KRK engineers did an amazing job of recreating that sound in the V-Series. Those V8s sound so good.”

Weinberg appreciates the compact nature of the V-Series for client listening situations. “Artists can sometimes get overwhelmed by gigantic monitors, so it’s good to have a nice, tight option like the V-Series,” he explains. “These monitors sound perfect; they’re not tiring, and they have really good imaging. I like that they tell me the truth on all frequencies. They have well-made amps, so they can also play super loud when people want; they can crank.”

In addition to his current eight-inch V-Series 8 (V8) monitors, Weinberg also has experience with the six-inch (V6) and four-inch (V4) models. “They are really good speakers that hit really hard,” he adds. “They get incredible bottom-end. You can always get them all bright in the mids, but to get something really big, with huge low-end, is special. I also keep a pair of the V4s at a small, remote beach house, so I can check on records while I am there, and they’re fantastic.”

For times when Weinberg is on the road, he calls on the KRK GoAux Mobile Monitoring System. “The GoAux are cool because people want to travel and still have a set of references wherever they go,” he says. “Whenever I go away anywhere, I just pack ‘em up, and off we go — and they sound great. My assistant finishes all our projects, and if I’m not in the studio, he can still send the files for me to listen to with the GoAux. Those monitors are fantastic for that application. I also use them when I am visiting with clients, which makes it possible for the artists to hear their music in different environments — whether it’s in my professional studio or their living room.”

While designed for mobile applications, Weinberg also uses the GoAux as commercial speakers in a small programming room. “They are just the perfect little speakers and are very well-priced; unlike traditional consumer monitors, the GoAux are not overly done,” he continues. “They can be used both wired or wirelessly via Bluetooth, they’re not heavy, and they have a professional sound. KRK really engineered these things to pack a punch, especially considering their small size.”

Weinberg further appreciates the GoAux for general listening applications. “I don’t get to go on vacation as much as I would like to, but when I do, I bring the GoAux with me so I can listen to music wherever I am,” he adds. “They come in a nice case, so they are easy to pick up and go. They set up easily as well, and they’re a great alternative to headphones.”

Like many of his colleagues, Weinberg keeps an array of studio headphones on hand, including the KRK KNS 6402 Headphones. “They’re a really good reference source,” he says. “They’re not overly engineered, so they sound as good as higher-end consumer options, which I like because a lot of professional headphones have too much sound. The KNS are very accurate in terms of the bottom and top end; and, like the GoAux, they’re not very expensive. Overall, I think they’re just cool headphones. I own a lot of headphones, and the KNS are among my go-to’s.”

As a longtime KRK user, Weinberg has seen the company’s evolution and product development firsthand. “I like KRKs because they’re very flat and even; I’m really hooked on these speakers,” he declares. “Every product KRK (Gibson) makes is phenomenal; super high-end and very well thought out. They translate very well to all the work I do, in or out of the studio, which is the key to a great speaker. The company’s customer support is also fantastic. Anytime I need a new product, or they make a new product that I want to try, they send it over for me to try out. Not every company will do that.”

In addition to the Nirvana, Madonna and The Beastie Boys, Weinberg has also been credited for his mastering work on albums with icons such as Prince, Yoko Ono, Metallica, Eddie Van Halen, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Sinéad O’Connor, Foster the People, The Black Keys, Smashing Pumpkins, Gary Clark Jr, Def Leppard, Run DMC and The Killers, among countless others. Array of Hope Transforms Worship Experiences With KRK Monitors

OLD TAPPAN, NEW JERSEY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2024 ― Array of Hope is a faith-based organization that creates and produces transformative events, films, and music for Catholic parishes and dioceses. With a mission to “reveal the truths of faith,” Array of Hope leaders believe that music is a powerful conduit for delivering faith to all generations. In an effort to deliver the best possible content, Array of Hope Founder and Executive Director Mario Costabile relies on KRK ROKIT 5 Powered Studio Monitors to elevate the organization’s productions.

Implemented as reference monitors across all the facility’s studios, the ROKITs provide the power, accuracy, and sonic ability necessary to produce professional-caliber content. “The ROKITs are our principal playback speakers,” he shares. “The KRKs have the most punch of any monitor out there, and I really like the way they sound. They’re small, they’re tight, and they can cover everything we need. The ROKITs have great solid bottom, clear top end, and an exceptional volume capacity. In fact, the ROKITs put out a lot of volume for the size of the monitors. They are also modestly priced, so I think they are a great option for people.”

Costabile first discovered KRK monitors about six years ago and has continually used them throughout the organization’s studios. “The KRK ROKITs are our principal studio monitors,” he adds. “Every time we build a new mixing space, we add in KRKs. We have acquired about half a dozen pairs now and have placed them in our video playback studios as well as our Logic mixing rooms for referencing. When we get them, we usually just need to adjust them once — to get a flat sound — and we’re good to go after that.

“I think the ROKITs also look cool,” he continues. “While the primary reason I selected them was for the sound, they are unique-looking speakers. The colors and design truly make the KRKs stand out compared to a lot of other monitors.”

Costabile was a successful music and film producer for over 40 years before co-founding Array of Hope in 2010. He has produced content for film, television, and the recording industry. Among the notable organizations for which Costabile has worked are MTV, Sony Music, and Universal Music. As the Executive Director of Array of Hope, Costabile has helped the organization become a leader in evangelization throughout the country.

Array of Hope accomplishes its goals through each of its specific ministries, which include The Array of Hope Concerts and retreats, AOH Music, The Array of Hope Channel and app, The Reason for Hope Podcast, and Array of Hope Social Media Outreach.

The Array of Hope Concert is a wide-ranging live performance that features multiple musical acts, motivational speakers, and thought-provoking film presentations. AOH Music is the organization’s band, which creates praise and worship music to play for the community. The Array of Hope Channel and app is a global video destination where everyone can find meaningful and inspiring films of faith, hope, and love for the entire family.

From in-person concerts to content that is distributed globally, the organization continues to share the Christian faith through high-quality media and events. The KRK ROKIT Studio Monitors help Array of Hope bring the faith-based community together through music television.

DJ and Producer Mike Cerda Crafts Unique Beats With KRK Monitors, Subwoofers, and Headphones

MIAMI, SEPTEMBER 12, 2024 ― DJ, Producer, and Multi-instrumentalist Mike Cerda has been in the music industry for over 25 years. He has worked with various artists and bands such as Shakira, Axwell & Ingrosso, and ChocQuibTown, among others. Cerda’s collaborations with GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY winners, in addition to his role as Musical Director for Maluma, have allowed his influence to reach international heights.

To ensure clear and consistent sound when creating beats in his Miami studio, Cerda relies on the KRK V-Series V6 Powered Studio Monitors, an S10.4 Powered Studio Subwoofer, and KNS 8402 Studio Headphones. For times when he’s crafting arrangements on the road, Cerda calls on the KRK GoAux Mobile Monitoring System.

“I think the most important thing to consider when choosing a pair of speakers is whether they reflect what’s happening and provide transparency of the audio,” says Cerda. “There are a lot of brands that either underrepresent or overrepresent the sound. For me, KRK translates my ideas in the mix exactly how I want.”

Cerda also notes the importance of how his new KRK Subwoofer complements his latest V-Series studio monitors. “I love the combination of my V6 monitors with the 10-inch sub,” he shares. “Even at very low volumes, there is still a great bass presence that translates well in my mixes. Without the sub, I would have to work with higher volumes just to feel the bass.”

A longtime user of KRK, Cerda acquired his first pair of V-Series monitors from a friend and says it was the brand’s aesthetic that initially drew him in. “The appearance of the KRKs is great; I love the yellow cones,” he explains. “The way they look against the brushed metal finish of the faceplate makes the monitors seem almost futuristic.”

Cerda also credits the flexibility of the KRK V-Series as being an important benefit. “It is cool that you can adapt the speakers to any environment that you are working in,” he adds. “They are very easy to use; you can tune them to any room, and they will sound great.”

In addition to his monitors and subwoofer, Cerda praises his KNS headphones for helping him perfect his mixes. “I love the KRK headphones,” he adds. “They are excellent for mixing, but I also use them during recordings as a reference to check my mixes. When I am at my home studio, I use KNS all the time, especially now that I’m a new dad and need to keep the volume low at times.”

Cerda has spent a lot of time touring with Maluma and found himself frequently calling on his KRK GoAuxto produce on the go. “I did not want to have to be isolated in a hotel room, so I would carry my GoAux and use them as a reference when listening,” he explains. “With GoAux, I no longer have to make arrangements to find a studio while on the road; they are easy to travel with and get set up and provide me with a helpful tool for referencing productions and mixes on the go.”

Aside from the features of KRK products themselves, Cerda also finds that the team behind KRK has been instrumental to him. “The support I receive from KRK and [its parent company] Gibson is amazing,” he shares. “I love the Miami team; they are incredible and easy to work with. If I need help with my gear in any way, they are there for me.”

A proud Venezuelan who was born in Caracas, Cerda has been around music his entire life. His musical odyssey began with his grandfather’s influence, a guiding force that introduced him to the world of music. At the age of eight, he embraced instruments like trombone, trumpet, and saxophone, setting the stage for a lifelong passion. While studying geophysical engineering in school, Cerda started a rap/hip-hop band called Cuarto Poder. The band soon became mainstream in Venezuela, which inspired Cerda to switch to studying recording arts in school. Cerda found it enriching to learn the theory of music while getting hands-on practice at the same time.

Now, with a wealth of experiences from traveling the world, Cerda immerses himself in his latest projects. He fuses the captivating realms of house music with the diverse influences that have shaped his musical identity while also exploring unique sound and rhythm.

Music Producer Jose Luis “Pepe” Pagan Creates Notable Melodies With KRK

Songwriter Uses the Brand’s Monitors and Subwoofers in his Home Studio and On-the-Go

MIAMI, AUGUST 20, 2024 ― Music Producer, TV/Film/Musicals Creator, Songwriter, and Guitarist Jose Luis “Pepe” Pagan has had an ear for music from a young age. He was born in Argentina, where he first began his career in the music industry before moving to the United States 25 years ago. He has since worked with artists such as Marc Anthony, J.Lo, Chayanne, Thalia, and Sarah Lenore, among others.

In addition to being a music producer, Pagan also works in the TV, film, and musicals industries and is the creator and music producer of the Amazon Prime show “Melody.” The show follows 18-year-old Melody, who seeks to develop her musical career as a means of escape from her challenges at home. Pagan is also the co-producer for an upcoming musical about the life of Latin American Artist Sandro. The show honors the late Latin icon and will showcase the story of his life and musical career.

For these projects, Pagan splits his time between his home studio and locations in Miami and Argentina, where he always has a combination of KRK solutions available. Included among these are the V-Series V4 Powered Studio Monitors and an S10.4 Powered Studio Subwoofer, as well as the legacy ROKIT 5 Generation 4 Powered Studio Monitors and 10S Subwoofer.

“I use the V4s a lot, basically for everything: when mixing, during the recording, and for completing all my music,” he says. “I love these speakers. When I go to Argentina again for my next musical, I will bring them with me. I travel everywhere with them because I like to always have the ability to reference on the spot.”

As a producer, Pagan previously found it difficult to get just the right level of vocals for his mixes, but the V4s have solved this problem with ease. “I was struggling a bit with finishing mixes, and I found that, despite being smaller speakers, they provide a perfect balance between all the frequencies that are really key,” he shares.

A longtime KRK user, Pagan first started with the brand’s iconic ROKIT monitors. “For general use, the ROKITs are incredible and very solid for their price point; they have great accuracy and bass response,” he shares. “The ROKITs are also an amazing option for entry-level producers.”

Pagan also entrusts his KRK subwoofers to deliver quality sound at his home studio. “I use the subwoofers to make sure everything is balanced. I have one in the center, which is an old KRK 10S Sub, and I have another one a little bit to the side, which is the new 10.4. The definition from the KRK subs is way better than any other subs I have tried. I really love them both.”

Pagan says that he finds the brand’s connection to its artists to be equally as important as the quality of its equipment. “I have been working with KRK’s parent company, Gibson, for a long time, close to 20 years, and their support has been incredible,” he shares. “I think the care Gibson gives to its artists is something incomparable. Of course, the craftsmanship of the brand also makes a huge difference. When you combine the artist relations and the quality of the instruments and equipment, it is something extraordinary. I have truly had a beautiful journey with Gibson/KRK.”

With such a long history with the brands, Pagan sees no end to his use of KRK gear, which he credits with having helped improve his workflow in a significant way. “My KRK gear has really changed the way I work when mixing, and they always seem to know exactly what I need,” he says. “I think that is something really special.”

Legendary Recording Engineer Jimmy Douglass Pushes the Limit With KRK

Lifelong KRK User Equips Latest Studio With the Brand’s Monitors and Subwoofers to Create Iconic Beats for Stereo and Dolby Atmos Applications

MIAMI, JULY 16, 2024 ― Five-time GRAMMY® Award-winning Recording Engineer and Producer Jimmy Douglass has a prolific career spanning over four decades. Throughout his time in the music industry, Douglass has worked with renowned artists like Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, and Foreigner, to contemporary performers such as Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Pharrell Williams, and many more.

As someone who lives and breathes music, Douglass has always felt the most creative when he taps into the feeling of the music. He says his goal is to create music that makes everybody in the room feel good. “Music is all about the vibe,” he shares. “Whether it’s rock, R&B, or soul, when you get that certain feeling, that is when it’s right.”

Douglass’ Miami studio consists of two stereo rooms and one Dolby® Atmos room, which requires gear that can withstand various musical applications. A longtime KRK user, his studio currently consists of a collection of V-Series V8 Powered Studio Monitors, Classic 8 Powered Studio Monitors, and S10 Powered Studio Subwoofers.

“KRK speakers can handle the levels required for hip-hop. I can blow them up, and they can really push that power out,” he shares. “They have tone even without a subwoofer and are nice and crisp sounding. I use them a lot in both my Dolby and stereo rooms.”

After nearly two decades of using KRK in his workspaces, Douglass knew it was the only brand he would trust when it came time to build his Dolby Atmos studio. “I had about 20 KRK monitors in my inventory, so I decided to use those to build my Dolby system, and I love how you really get to hear the definition and the distance in the surround production,” he says. “Another advantage of KRK is that I can move them around with ease. I have them on stands around the room, which makes it a portable configuration. I can break it down at any time, and I don’t have to commit. To me, that is the beauty of that system.”

Douglass also appreciates the aesthetic appeal of the KRK brand. “One of my favorite elements of KRK is the easily identifiable color of those woofers; the yellow really stands out,” he adds. “My KRKs also take punishment well. Durability is a major consideration when using a speaker, especially doing a lot of hip-hop with all the extra energy that is being pushed out,” he adds.

Douglass has had a long-standing relationship with KRK since the early 2000s and has used his KRKs on a few recent projects, and he does not plan to stop anytime soon. “I was lucky enough to get to redo Justin Timberlake’s catalog in Atmos,” he says. “My KRKs were very instrumental to that project. The songs sound amazing when you get to hear them on the speakers in the immersive environment. I tried to listen back on my phone in binaural, but I was not getting the spatial dimension that I was experiencing from listening through speakers. So, those were very important throughout the whole process. Whatever projects I have coming down the line, I am working on them with my KRKs.”

Jimmy Douglass continues to display his versatility by remaining current while drawing from his years of experience. He is best known for bringing unconventional techniques into the studio and encouraging artists to transcend genre restrictions. Douglass is credited with bringing a raw edge to sound and specifically bringing a heavy funk bass sound into rock music. His hard work and immense talent have carved a place for him among some of the most respected engineers and mixers in the world.

Podcaster and On-air Personality Humberto “El Gato” Rodriguez Gets Real With KRK

Rodriguez Uses KRK ROKITs as Reference Monitors for his Podcast “El Poder de la Música”

MIAMI, JUNE 24, 2024 ― Podcaster Humberto “El Gato” Rodriguez’s “El Poder de la Música” podcast focuses on all the intricacies of music, from the science behind production to new and emerging artists. His show, which translates to “The Power of Music,” can be found on all major podcasting platforms — such as Apple Music, Spotify, and iHeart Radio.

“El Poder is a reflection of my love for music and the type of musician I would want to be had I become one,” shares Rodriguez. “I started this podcast six years ago with the vision of having a platform to discuss music with musicians, creators, engineers, producers, and anybody else who has anything to do with music, even from a scientific point of view. It has been a real treat to do what I love and be around great music and musicians.”

To bring his podcast to life, Rodriguez knows the gear in his studio needs to be equally as great as the equipment used by the artists he interviews. The KRK ROKIT 7 G4 Professional Bi-Amp Powered Studio Monitors were an easy choice. “I use my KRKs for everything,” says Rodriguez, who has the White Noise editions. “I use them for the podcast, which I air on audio and video platforms, and to listen to music; I have also produced a couple of songs with them.”

While there are many features that Rodriguez appreciates about his ROKITs, there are a few that stand out most. “One thing I really love about my KRKs is that the bass is in the front,” he says. “I don’t have a lot of room in my studio, and I needed a sound that was accurate and reliable. If the bass is too close to the back, the sound bounces and isn’t accurate. I love bass, so it was important for me to find a speaker that allows it to sound clean and precise.”

Rodriguez also credits the control functions of the monitors as being among his favored features. “I like the on-board LCD visual EQ,” he adds. “At first, I didn’t know that you could have presets of EQ, but now I love that function because I can keep the speakers flat and use my presets as necessary. I also love the standby feature. If I forget to turn off the speakers, it goes into standby mode and shuts itself down.”

As someone who prides himself on being genuine, Rodriguez was happy to find a pair of speakers that he trusts. “I am very honest in my personal life and even when I go on air for my radio show or podcast,” he explains. “So, I need real gear and KRK for me is real. There are other well-known brands that might look very cool, but they are not authentic. I like accuracy and an honest sound; the KRK ROKITs are that for me.”

A staple in the pro audio industry for nearly 35 years, Rodriguez started his career working in a recording studio at a radio station in the Dominican Republic, which he credits as the driving force behind his connection to music. Rodriguez studied journalism in Colombia and after moving to the United States, became a well-known on-air personality. He has hosted programs on Spanish-language stations in the Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Florida. He continues to follow his passion for music and considers himself a communicator through radio and television.

As a longtime fan of Gibson, Rodriguez has a strong relationship with the brand and KRK. He works closely with Cesar Acevedo, director of entertainment relations for Latin America at Gibson. “Cesar is like a brother to me,” shares Rodriguez. “Gibson is truly like my family, so working with KRK just made sense.”

From producing and mastering in his home studio to mixing on stage, Jimenez continues to develop his sound. The KRK ROKIT 8 G4 Studio Monitors and S10.4 Studio Subwoofer have both played a crucial part in helping Jimenez create his beats.

“I use my KRKs for production and mastering projects as an electronic music DJ and producer, and switching to the ROKIT 8 monitors paired with the S10.4 subwoofer has been spectacular,” says Jimenez. “The audio reference is extremely balanced between bass, mids, and highs. I consider audio quality to be very important in any scenario and having equipment with these capabilities makes you really work and appreciate the music.”

Jimenez finds that his KRKs allow for an overall better listening experience when in the studio. “Thanks to my KRKs, I have better control of the room and a better sonic experience,” explains Jimenez. “The speakers are super powerful, and I am very happy with them. I feel that my KRKs are very well-rounded, and my favorite spec of the speakers is the low end!”

While Jimenez enjoys a variety of the features his KRK ROKIT monitors have to offer, one of his favorite parts is the DSP-driven Graphic EQ. “Having a Graphic EQ in the back is a big plus for me,” says Jimenez. “It allows me to control the dynamics and modify the settings of the speakers for the room.” The 25 settings also help condition his acoustic environment and offer new levels of versatility within the studio monitors. This feature is great for when Jimenez wants a different EQ response between creating and mixing his music.

Hailing from El Paso, TX, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, Jimenez is a longtime vinyl enthusiast. He understands the impact that quality equipment in the music-making process can have on the final product. “I have always wanted to own a pair of KRKs and thanks to the KRK Miami team, now I do,” shares Jimenez.

In addition to his studio work, Jimenez’s selections and mixing abilities have given him the opportunity to play at a variety of notable venues in Miami. He made his first international debut at Soles Beach Club in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Looking ahead, Jimenez plans to continue to use his KRKs for future projects, specifically when recording and mixing.

Flieger also uses the KRK V-Series 6 Powered Studio Monitors and an S10.4 Powered Subwoofer when composing and producing at his studio in Berlin.

“I have been using KRK since 2014 after being introduced to the brand’s sound at a session at The Village Recorder in Los Angeles,” he shares. “I now use KRK gear to create all my music and the sound for my art installations. I also use it on all the music I compose for the videos and commercials that I direct.”

That is when the GoAux 3 monitors come in handy.”

Accurate sound is another important feature for any monitor when it comes to making music. “I love how true KRK speakers are to the sound and that they do not hide anything,” explains Flieger. “I was never interested in overemphasizing audio within my workflow. If the vibe is nice, just let it roll. KRK speakers have always helped me get into the zone without getting carried away from reality.”

Flieger continues to use his KRKs for a variety of creative projects. “I mainly use the KRK GoAux for composing and producing,” shares Flieger. “I pretty much finished a whole project with just the GoAux, had another listen back at my studio and tweaked a few minor things. Everything turned out to be top-notch. I am super happy with the results.”

Ron Flieger has been a part of the music industry since the age of 22 when he was signed with Warner as a full-time singer/songwriter. He worked in this role for several years before getting signed by Universal Music Group, where he expanded his field of work to writing and producing for other artists. Flieger has also composed music for film and commercials.

Today, Flieger is best known as a creative director. His personal aesthetic always follows a “sophisticated and raw” vibe, and his KRKs continue to contribute to his creative workflow. “It is refreshing to be able to fully rely on my KRKs as a reference when it comes to evaluating the magic of sound,” he says.

“Featuring KRK’s world-renowned sound along with new technology and tuning parameters to truly dial-in the listening experience, the KRK ROKIT Generation Five is a must-have studio solution for the most demanding creators,” says Sterling Doak, Senior Director of Marketing for Gibson. “KRK engineers continually pull from the brand’s legacy of trust and performance to refine its studio monitors — blending cutting-edge technology with the time-tested principles of audio engineering. The same holds true for this latest development. As the most advanced monitor in its class, the KRK ROKIT Generation Five is powerful enough to handle the rigors of professional use but basic enough for emerging producers, engineers, and artists.”

With three voicing modes available, the KRK ROKIT Generation Five Monitors cover all the bases for today’s music makers. Included among these is Mix Mode, which offers a flat frequency and phase response that is ideal for mixing, mastering, and critical listening. Create Mode provides more inspirational voicing and is best used for writing, producing, and casual listening. Finally, Focus Mode has mid-focused voicing for critical analysis of the midrange band, where vocals and instruments have the most energy.

The monitors also feature 25 evolved DSP boundary and tuning EQ combinations that help minimize and correct problems in any acoustic environment. Additionally, the newly designed tweeter benefits from a highly damped acoustic silk dome diaphragm for improved phase performance and an extended frequency range (up to 40 kHz), while the refreshed, amber-colored LCD DSP interface simplifies the calibration process with new tuning options.

The monitors also feature KRK’s iconic woven Kevlar® aramid fiber cone woofers for superior damping and modal breakup control and Class D power amplifiers to drive the transducers evenly and more efficiently at reduced operating temperatures to ensure maximum transient response and dynamics reproduction for audio integrity during long work sessions.

Intended for plug-and-play use, each pair of monitors also comes with a set of isolation wedges for easy setup, while integrated mounting points make it simple to use them with any wall/ceiling mount solutions. Each pair also comes standard with the protective grille installed, while an additional faceplate option without the grille is included to accommodate aesthetic preferences.

As the newest generation of the iconic ROKIT professional studio monitors, the KRK ROKIT Generation Five takes music and sound creativity to a whole new level in the industry.

Esteemed Country Music Engineer Steve Marcantonio Finds Portable Reference Solution With KRK GoAux

GoAux Provides Accurate Audio Representation for Work With Country Stars Such as Ronnie Dunn

NASHVILLE, FEBRUARY 22, 2024 ― With a passion for both music and technology, GRAMMY® Award-winning Engineer Steve Marcantonio has dedicated his life to crafting songs while simultaneously trying every new music industry trend. Early on, Marcantonio distinguished himself by bridging the gap between the analog and digital worlds, a skill he continues to use today. Since his start at New York’s Record Plant Studios, where he worked alongside influential artists such as Aerosmith, Kiss, and John Lennon, Marcantonio has established himself as one of the most esteemed names in country music.

From Taylor Swift’s Red and Carrie Underwood’s Some Hearts to Thomas Rhett’s Where We Started, Marcantonio has had a hand in shaping decades worth of genre-defining hits. This talent was recognized by the Academy of Country Music in 2006 when he was named ACM Engineer of the Year. Marcantonio’s work on the documentary Glen Campbell…I’ll Be Me was also awarded a GRAMMY® Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media in 2016. While his workload has certainly not slowed, Marcantonio now prefers to primarily operate out of his Nashville-based studio, “MusicHouse,” where he collaborates with legends and newcomers alike.

Although he is no longer traveling extensively, Marcantonio still finds himself working on sessions outside of his studio space. For these instances, the engineer has turned to his new KRK GoAux 4 Portable Monitor System as an accurate and versatile reference solution. As a longtime KRK user, Marcantonio currently deploys KRK V-Series V4 and V8 monitors and a S10.4 subwoofer in his studio, so the KRK GoAux was a natural progression for the producer.

“The KRK GoAux have a lovely bottom-end with crystal-clear top-end and imaging, which is important to me,” Marcantonio explains. “What I’m used to hearing through my professional KRK speakers comes through in the GoAux. Best of all, I can use them to easily reference what my mix might sound like in different listening areas. I can put them on the other side of the studio wall or in an area that’s not part of our usual listening surface and get an accurate representation of that space. The speakers are good at projecting my track in a way that is comparable to what the consumer will ultimately hear.”

Marcantonio most recently used this method for his recording work with Ronnie Dunn of the country duo Brooks and Dunn. “A lot of times when we’re in the middle of a session, the artist or producer wants to reference another track on their phone,” explains Marcantonio. “It has been a huge help that they are able to just use the Bluetooth connection on the GoAux to easily play back on actual speakers, and it sounds great! The measurement microphone is also awesome. Ultimately, it’s really all about the convenience: the included stands and bag make this so simple to quickly set up.”

The handiness and accessories provided by GoAux were a welcome upgrade to Marcantonio’s mobile setup. Marcantonio also appreciates the convenience of using GoAux to assist his students at Blackbird Academy, an educational mentorship program from Nashville’s Blackbird Studios. Academy students are taught by esteemed audio professionals such as Marcantonio, gaining the hands-on experience needed to succeed in the music industry. As students often take sessions at MusicHouse, among other locations, Marcantonio notes that the portability of GoAux will provide an added benefit for these up-and-coming musicians, producers, and engineers.

“I have encouraged many people, in person and online, to look into the KRK GoAux,” he finishes. “They’re the perfect speakers for a musician who’s going from hotel to hotel, a producer working off their computer, or a young person who’s constantly on the go. The carrying case is a great size for a plane and can fit within your carry-on. Even for someone like me, who isn’t traveling as much anymore, bringing these to recording sessions at artists’ homes or studios is great. For the price, convenience, and history that KRK has, choosing GoAux is a no-brainer.”

Miami’s Morplay Studio Drops Beats With KRK ROKIT 10-3 and GoAux Mobile Monitors

Audio Engineer and Studio Manager Frank Socorro Uses KRK Monitors for Sound Referencing On-site and On-the-go

MIAMI, FEBRUARY 6, 2024 ― Morplay Studios Audio Engineer and Studio Manager Franklin “Frank” Socorro is a music industry veteran who has shared his knowledge and love for music and production for 25 years. Socorro first started out freelancing, crafting songs for Latin artists like Ricky Martin, Julio Iglesias, and Enrique Iglesias. It wasn’t long before Socorro moved into the hip hop and R&B world, where he worked alongside Producer Salaam Remi and a variety of artists, including Faith Evans, Nas, 50 Cent, and the late Amy Winehouse. He also taught audio courses at the SAE Institute for nearly a decade before joining Morplay Studios in Miami.

It’s in the Studio Manager role that Socorro required a high-quality studio monitor that offered both reliable sound and visual appeal to match the space. He ultimately selected the KRK ROKIT 10-3 G4 Midfield Three-Way Studio Monitors to support the reggaeton and urban music produced at the studio, which makes the size and low end of a studio monitor a priority.

“Due to space limitations in the room, we needed to have the low end without also using a sub,” he says. “With these considerations, choosing the ROKIT 10-3s was an easy decision. Overall, even at a loud volume, the monitors reproduce well. They don’t alter their sound sonically as the volume increases, and that makes it easy for us to trust what’s happening when we play the music through the speakers. It’s a good reference at different volumes, which is important.”

Socorro also uses two pairs of the KRK GoAux Portable Monitors to assist with mobile referencing.“The ability to go anywhere with the GoAux is really great,” he explains. “I was especially blown away by the bass response, which is obviously hard to pull off in such a small speaker. I find that the accuracy you get from the low end is impressive and extremely useful, especially for a speaker that can be moved around.”

The mobility and sound quality of the GoAux have proven especially important for playback applications. “Right now, we have the GoAux monitors sitting in a non-treated office made out of a container with metal walls, which is the worst listening environment, ever―yet the monitors still sound good,” he shares. “That is a testament to what the KRK GoAux can do; the room becomes less of an issue, which is important when you’re trying to listen to something that’s critical.”

From a usability standpoint, Socorro says that having portable monitors that are easy to set up and work on has made for a much smoother-running studio. “Anyone who is not super familiar or technologically savvy with audio equipment can easily set the KRK GoAux monitors up and make them work,” he adds. “They also have Bluetooth, so anyone can connect and play their music without the need to continually unplug, which is an added bonus.”

GRAMMY®-nominated Singer Paula Arenas Creates Heartfelt Tracks With KRK

Mixing and Recording Engineer Maria Elisa Ayerbe Used KRK Headphones, Monitors, and Sub to Produce Arenas’ Most Recent Album

MIAMI, JANUARY 8, 2024 ― GRAMMY®-nominated Singer and Songwriter Paula Arenas released her third album titled ‘A Ciegas’ in May, and it has since been nominated for four Latin GRAMMY® Awards and one GRAMMY® Award in the category of Best Latin Album. Like Arenas’ previous two albums, ‘A Ciegas’ was crafted with the help of her friend and Latin GRAMMY®-winning Engineer and Latin GRAMMY®-nominated Producer and Composer Maria Elisa Ayerbe.

Maria Elisa Ayerbe (left) and Paula Arenas (right) in the studio with KRK KNS 8402 Studio Headphones and KRK V-Series Studio Monitors.

Arenas and Ayerbe both have a strong passion for music, and they require high-quality audio equipment to share this passion with the world. That is why they turned to KRK’s KNS 8402 Studio Headphones, which were used to help create Arenas’ most recent album. “I like the 8402s specifically because they help make our tracks sound good and are well-balanced headphones,” says Ayerbe. “I also really appreciate the fact that they have volume control, so I don’t have to ride the artists’ volume on my end the entire time. The KRK KNS have great isolation, so you don’t get a lot of bleed, which doesn’t happen with other headphones.”

Another reason the KRK headphones are a go-to for the duo is the fit. “They’re comfortable, and that is important while recording since we’re wearing them for hours,” shares Ayerbe. “They are also nice looking, which is always a plus,” adds Arenas. “I love them and really treasure them.”

A long-time KRK user, Ayerbe has a variety of gear at her Miami-based South Mountain Studios, which she also deployed in the creation of Arenas’ music, as well as a variety of other recording and mixing projects. This includes the KRK S8.4 Powered Studio Subwoofer and KRK V4 Series 4 Powered Reference Monitors. “The V4s are incredibly accurate, high-quality compact speakers,” says Ayerbe. “I love how transparent they are. They have a great low end and a very open, pristine, high end, as well as a very good stereo image.”

In addition to working with KRK in the studio, Arenas has her own pair of KNS 8402s at her home as well as the KRK ROKIT 5 G4 Five-inch Powered Near-Field Studio Monitors, which Ayerbe recommended for Arenas’ space. “The monitors work great no matter what environment they are in,” explains Ayerbe of the decision to install the monitors in Arenas’ home. “The ROKITs are good at providing a great reference without relying too much on the acoustic treatment of the room, which is perfect for home-listening applications.”

While the studio equipment used is important to make a great album, so are the people you work with—that is why Arenas and Ayerbe have had such success collaborating for so long. “Paula knows exactly what she wants to sound like, and she is able to let me know the story that she wants to tell sonically before I step in on the technical side,” adds Ayerbe.

“It is so important to work with people who you trust, and Maria Elisa is that for me. We understand each other very well, and that is why we continue to work together,” shares Arenas. ‘A Ciegas’ holds a special place in Arenas’ heart. “The album is very personal. The title means going blindly, which is how I feel when I really get into my music,” says Arenas. “Writing songs is like a diary to me; I tend to write what is in my heart, and I do it to be my best self for me, my son, and my family. The album is almost like a love letter to me.”

Ayerbe also understands the importance of Arenas’ music and believes that is what makes the duo thrive. “Paula’s music is very heartfelt, and she stands by everything that she writes,” shares Ayerbe. “There’s always a story to tell, and there’s always a feeling behind those stories. Also, we are very specific and conscious about the overall quality of the music. This is why I think our partnership has been successful—I listen to her, and I take her music to where she wants it to go. Ours is a great partnership because we have fun, and we love what we do.”

Arenas started her music career in her home of Bogotá, Colombia, and eventually made her way to Miami, where she has lived ever since. Ayerbe is also from Bogotá and has been working professionally for 17 years. She has her own label and a goal to empower and highlight Latin music in the alternative pop scene. She is also an audio educator who currently teaches at Abbey Road Institute in Miami and has taught at a variety of universities across the U.S. and Colombia.

Italian EDM Artist Giacomo “jayover” Uber Works On-the-go With KRK

GoAux 4 Portable Studio Monitor Helps the Songwriter/Producer Craft a Unique Sound From Anywhere

PADOVA, ITALY, DECEMBER 14, 2023 ― Producer, Writer, and Artist Giacomo Uber, also known as jayover, fell in love with electronic music and music production when he was a kid, and has been pursuing these passions ever since. While working in his Italy-based studio, Area 23, Giacomo has produced and written music for artists such as Gabry Ponte, Don Diablo, LUM!X, Martin Jensen, and JP Cooper, among others, cumulating in around 400 million streams and two gold records. Giacomo’s love for creating music has also translated into his personal career, where he works on his current artistic project, “jayover.”

As someone who is constantly on the move, Giacomo needs the proper tools to help him create his long list of projects, no matter where he finds himself. That is why he turned to the KRK GoAux 4 Portable Studio Monitor System. “I travel quite often, so having portable speakers is great for when I am on the go,” he says. “Usually, when I’m not in my studio, I work on headphones, but that can get tiring after a while. Having small reference speakers like the KRK GoAux helps so much. I use them mainly when I am writing and starting productions; I think those are the scenarios where they really shine.”

Giacomo says that one of his favorite features of the KRK GoAux 4 is the built-in auto-calibration system. “Obviously, hotels and living rooms are not meant to be studios, so the acoustics in these spaces can be a problem,” he explains. “With the auto-calibration system of the KRK GoAux, I can improve the sound of a space in just a couple of minutes! I take them with me quite often, so that’s important. They’re also great for outdoor spaces ― I use them in my garden when I get tired of staying inside my studio. Overall, the KRK GoAux work very well, and having the bag is a plus to carry and protect them!”

While he more recently began using the GoAux, KRK monitors are not new to Giacomo. “I first heard about the brand about ten years ago while watching tutorials on the internet and seeing KRK monitors being used,” he explains. “After that, I started working on a pair of my friend’s ROKIT 6s, and KRK monitors have been my go-to ever since. I can’t wait to bring the GoAux with me to southern Italy on holiday and write music on the beach.”

Giacomo has always had a strong interest in music; he played the drums for a funk band at age 10 and studied music theory in school. Since then, Giacomo has focused on dance and electronic music and has written and produced a variety of songs, such as “In The Club” and “What Happened.” He also formed and is a part of the Italian music duo Out Of Sound with Italian Singer and Songwriter Mattia Lever. The duo has produced multiple tracks, including “Nobody to Love” and “Sweet Like Chocolate.”

In 2022, Giacomo decided to focus on his work as “jayover” and produced “Talk Talk,” his first collaboration with Italian DJ Alex Gaudino and Musical Artist Tobtok. Since then, Giacomo has worked with legendary Italian Musician Gabry Ponte and English Singer Conor Maynard to create “Another Night,” which has millions of streams on various music platforms. Giacomo has also worked with labels such as Sony Music, Polydor (Universal Music), and Virgin Records for both his professional production and writing work and his personal project, jayover. With many releases coming up for jayover, Giacomo is excited to continue to write and produce with his KRK GoAux by his side.

Latin Pop Artist Nico González Shares His Passion for Music While Touring With Camilo

The Songwriter, Recording Artist, and Touring Musician Produces, Mixes, and Tracks on the Road With KRK GoAux

Songwriter, Recording Artist, and Touring Musician Nico González has traveled the United States sharing his passion for Latin pop and urban music inspired by his Colombian heritage. When he’s not creating in this style, González finds himself writing, producing, engineering, and performing in a variety of genres and formats, including pop and rock. His musical skills translate not only to his personal projects but also to those artists he works alongside, such as Ela Taubert, Juli, Diego Torres, Las Villa, and Borja, among others.

Currently a touring musician for Colombian singer Camilo, González is constantly on the move and has kept himself busy working on various mixing and production projects while on the road. This includes assignments with labels like Sony Music Latin and Universal Latin, as well as Camilo’s HBO Max Documentary titled “El Primer Tour de mi Vida,” for which González was a mixing engineer.

The ability to produce quality music from anywhere is vital to González’s workflow. He recently turned to the KRK GoAux Portable Monitor System to assist with the workload. “The GoAux monitors truly make me feel like I am working in my studio, and that is the most important part of any portable monitor,” he says. “I really like the sensational and powerful low-end that the GoAux monitors produce, despite their small size. I also like that the mids, low-mids, and high-mids are very defined and clear, and I love that they’re not too bright.”

The small size and sound reproduction of the GoAux especially shine for González while on tour. “Since I am used to the monitors’ great sound, I can work on these projects from anywhere in the world,” he continues. “I have been traveling for weeks now, playing shows while also producing tracks, songwriting, and mixing all kinds of music from hotel rooms. I really like that I can take the KRK GoAux monitors with me everywhere. They’re so small I can fit them almost anywhere; I’ve stored them in my backpack and carry-on when going between tour stops with Camilo. When I’m traveling lighter, I can count on the system’s amazing case.”

With no sign of slowing down and his passion for music only growing, González also creates his own original songs and arrangements, the productions of which are further aided by the KRK GoAux. With the portable monitors now by his side, González has found a way to easily hone his passion with artists all over the United States. “Something I truly enjoy is that the system has built-in Bluetooth,” González says. “Any friend or artist who’s working with me in a session can play their musical references and show their playlists, which enhances and speeds up the creative process.”

A graduate of Berklee, where he dual majored in music production and engineering as well as contemporary writing and production, González released his first single, “¿Cómo Decirte?” in 2016. Since that time, he has put out several other tracks, including “Mira,” “El Traductor,” and a holiday single titled “Si la Vivo en Medellín.” He has also previously toured with Camilo during his first world tour, “Mis Manos.” In addition to touring around North America, González has performed at his alma mater as well as at shows in his home country of Colombia.

Former Carrie Underwood Guitarist Takes His Talents to the Studio, Creating Tracks for Indie Artists and Iconic Musicians Alike

Producer and Session Guitarist Shawn Tubbs Finds Creative Outlet at Home After Retiring from the Rigors of Touring

Inspired by the work of icons like Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck, Producer and Session Musician Shawn Tubbs developed his own passion and talent for guitar at a young age. His skills catapulted him into a career supporting artists for both live and recorded performances. From touring alongside Carrie Underwood to performing with Stone Temple Pilots on Saturday Night Live and MTV Unplugged, Tubbs has traveled the world performing in intimate venues and large stadiums.

Tubbs’ professional career began in California at age 15, doing session work and playing in some of the region’s hottest clubs. His talents were noticed by the contemporary Christian rock band, The Violet Burning, which propelled him into the world of Christian music as a recording artist and performer. After touring with Underwood for over a decade, Tubbs retired from life on the road and turned his attention to creating online gear demos for YouTube audiences, which he says “boast a large following of gear and guitar lovers alike.”

Now a session guitarist focusing on creating music for various artists, Tubbs completes much of his work remotely, recording or producing tracks from his home studio. This includes custom tracks, which can be found on projects for artists such as bassist and producer Anthony Sallee. Tubbs’ most recent and notable work can be found on three tracks of the late David Crosby’s album, For Free: “Ships in the Night,” “Boxes,” and “River Rise.” Tubbs also released his own album, Demolition, A Collection of Short Guitar Jams, which is available on Soundcloud.

With his musical focus turned primarily to recording and producing these days, Tubbs recognizes the need to always have top-of-the-line gear that will enhance his work. As a result, he installed KRK V-Series 8 Studio Monitors, which he says provide natural reproduction of his tracks and projects. “I feel so much more comfortable now as a guitar player hearing my soloed tracks through the V8s,” he shares. “When I send out work that I have done, I’m confident in what I’ve produced because of how true the V8s are to the sound of the source. In the rare case when a client says a track sounds off, I know it wasn’t because the monitoring was misrepresented. Instead, it’s usually just a matter of the client looking for something else, and the KRKs make it possible for me to easily go back in and adjust the source tone. That’s a big benefit of the V8s for me.”

As a guitarist and producer who has devoted years to his monitors, Tubbs has a unique perspective on the V8s’ performance. “I’m moving into a much smaller room, and the V8s might be a bit much for the space, but I know them and am comfortable with them,” he explains. “I can tune the room for statics and anomalies, but at the end of the day, I know that no matter what I do, my mid- and top-end are going to be honest. That’s what the V8s are―brutally honest speakers. The V8s just sound fabulous. I trust them, and I’m confident in my work because of them.”

Before selecting KRK, Tubbs was a dedicated user of another industry standard brand of studio monitors. He was encouraged by a friend from Gibson [parent company to KRK] to give the V-Series a try, and it wasn’t until Tubbs heard his own soloed tracks for a session project through the V8s that he realized the difference KRK made. “At first, I didn’t want my world to be interrupted,” he explains. “I was so used to my old monitors, but when I soloed up my guitar takes with KRK, it was the first time I could hear how the mids actually sounded. They were ridiculously natural. As a guitar player, the mids are my whole world, so the second I heard them, I knew I was going to have to make a switch to KRK. Since then, I’ve seen a lot of people switch to KRKs solely because they knew if I left my previous brand for them, they must be very good. KRK is really crushing it.”

French Musician and Producer PV Nova Shares His Talents on Stage and Screen

PV Nova Calls on the KRK V-Series 6 Studio Monitors to Provide Authentic Audio for his Mixing and Monitoring Needs

With a career propelled by the power of YouTube, French Musician and Producer PV Nova has long utilized the Internet and social media as a way to highlight his talents. Surrounded by music as a child, PV was first introduced to the art by his father, a guitarist, and his mother, a pianist, singer, and fan of classical music. After learning the piano himself, PV was a proud amateur musician but never anticipated turning the hobby into his career. It wasn’t until the YouTube videos he shared of himself performing gained traction, with hundreds of thousands of views each, that he realized the reality of this path for him.

Since his YouTube success, PV has garnered an influential online career, popularizing music writing and editing. He prides himself on his educational videos, teaching upcoming artists how to produce tracks in multiple genres while keeping the content fun and humorous. PV has also called on his digital finesse for his creation, Internet Orchestra. Featuring 500 musicians, Internet Orchestra is the world’s largest live performance webcast, offering supercharged and thrilling concert experiences to at-home viewers everywhere.

For these ventures, PV makes the magic happen from his new home studio in Nantes, France. Although smaller than his previous space, PV still requires the accuracy and frequency response of a professional studio. This is accomplished with a pair of KRK V-Series 6 Studio Monitors, which he uses for mixing and monitoring. “I’ve been a fan of the Gibson brands for quite a long time now, and I was eager to learn more about KRK,” he shares. “When I decided to build a new home studio, the timing felt perfect. The power of the V6s is perfectly adaptable to my new smaller space. I had a pair of studio monitors that cost four times the price of KRKs when I lived in Paris, and yet their sound quality was not four times better!”

Finding a compatible monitor for his studio was crucial to PV, who understands the critical role monitoring plays in the mixing process. Between his online work and his recorded projects, PV expects authentic replication and clarity for all his music. “It is extremely important that the sound you hear when mixing reflects what your audience will hear,” he explains. “I play and record music every day in my home studio, whether it be pop or rock songs, orchestral music, or electronic tracks. The V6s offer a good response along the entire frequency spectrum.”

When he’s not in the studio, PV loves performing and is often on the stage playing for live audiences across France. Here, he finds himself calling on another Gibson brand product: the Maestro Original Collection guitar pedals. Ideal for his rock-centric tracks, PV particularly enjoys working with the Fuzz-Tone FZ-M and Ranger Overdrive. “My pedalboard is always with me on stage, so I can adapt my level of drive and distortion,” he shares. “The Fuzz pedal has such a unique and powerful sound, and I like to use the Overdrive on its low setting to add a bit more warmth and bite to my guitar sound. They’re simple to use and have allowed me to find the exact sound I was looking for with my music.”

Currently on a break from touring, PV has been full-force in the studio. With new music and online content constantly in the works, he looks forward to his continued use of KRK. “I’ve been livestreaming recording sessions on Twitch, and the monitors have been perfect for that,” he shares. “Not only sound-wise either; the yellow cones of the V6s bring some welcomed bright color to the otherwise black gear in my studio. KRK offers a very good quality-to-price ratio, and the V6s have been the perfect addition to my studio.”

KRK GoAux Trusted for Concert Series at Royal Albert Hall

Mixer Gareth Johnson Depends on the Portable Monitor System as a Reliable and Mobile Mixing Solution for Teenage Cancer Trust Fundraiser

Royal Albert Hall was once again the site for the annual concert series benefiting the Teenage Cancer Trust, an organization providing unique care and support for young people living with cancer. Featuring acts such as Roger Daltrey of The Who, Underworld, Wet Leg, and Jake Bugg, the task of mixing audio for the six-day-long event was given to Producer, Mixer, and Writer Gareth Johnson. Although Johnson has been mixing the Teenage Cancer Trust shows for nearly 20 years, this was the first time he relied on a brand-new solution: the KRK GoAux 3 Portable Monitor System.

“I originally wanted to try the KRK GoAux because they’re a complete reference monitor system that can fit in a bag,” Johnson explains. “A portable solution is great for me since I’m always moving between live venues, my professional studio, and my home studio. Plus, it’s good to have a system where I can have a quick listen to what was recorded from the live show. The KRK GoAux does just that. They are extremely portable, and let me know what has been recorded so I can construct mixes to check that we have everything we need.”

Mixing accurate audio for the Teenage Cancer Trust shows was crucial for Johnson. Each performance had multi-track and multi-camera recordings for live albums and other content to support the charity. “It was a full production,” says Johnson about the gigs, “and it was at one of the world’s most iconic venues with some of the biggest artists from around the globe. There wasn’t much free time because it was all systems go right from the start. The GoAux made my job so much easier; they were simple to set up, super light, and did their job perfectly.”

“When I was backstage, I was immediately able to plug the GoAux in and get a rough balance,” Johnson continues. “The KRK GoAux over-delivered in how easy they were to use and balance tracks. I streamed a 128-channel full concert straight from my laptop via the GoAux’s Bluetooth capabilities. There was no problem with bandwidth at all. When I got to my main studio and opened my mix, it didn’t sound wildly different.”

The GoAux’s features and capabilities proved equally useful backstage. “Obviously you can use headphones, but it was great to have something that I could just set up in a room and have other people listen in as well,” says Johnson. “I’ve used other portable monitors before, but none of them were as small as the GoAux. It would’ve been great to have access to something like this, at this price point, when I was first starting out. It’s so cool that these are available and exist now.”

Although the KRK GoAux weren’t available when Johnson began mixing, the now retired KRK VXT Series Studio Monitors were the first pair of professional monitors he ever owned. “As such a long-standing brand—one that I’ve had experience with for years—I’m happy to know that KRK continues to provide innovative products,” he says. “The GoAux are such a reliable and portable reference system. For a fast turnaround and high-pressure environment like the Teenage Cancer Trust shows, the last thing you want is gear that is going to let you down. I was so happy with how the KRK GoAux worked out for this project and look forward to using them on my next gig.”

Atlanta Artist LOCS Lets the Good Times Roll With KRK Studio Monitors

KRK ROKIT and CLASSIC Monitors Provide Versatility for Production and Mastering of the Rapper/Producer’s Newest Releases

Rapper, Recording Artist, and Producer LOCS first found his passion for music in college. Between writing, producing, and touring, he has since fully immersed himself in everything the industry has to offer, looking for new ways to advance his career. After landing a number of impressive sync placements, including features on HBO Max’s “The Hype” and Freeform’s “Grownish,” LOCS turned his focus to his latest project: his new single, “Good Time.” As with all his past releases, LOCS once again relied on KRK studio monitors, which most recently included the ROKIT 7 G4 and CLASSIC 7 monitors.

“KRK has been all over my releases since I began making music,” LOCS explains. “The producer I worked with when I first started had KRK ROKIT 8s in his studio, and that was the first time I really got to hear them in a professional setting. Now that I’m working on new music, I’ve been using my ROKITs and CLASSICs in my studios in Los Angeles and Atlanta. They were especially useful on my most recent EP, ‘Arrival,’ which I released last September. Having the ability to use both lines has been a game changer for me.”

This versatility is key for LOCS, who prefers to rely on each of his sets of monitors for different applications. “If I was doing just production, I would use my KRK CLASSIC 7s,” he says. “Those studio monitors are perfect for when I want to listen to straight instrumentals. They are a little bit warmer and provide great coloration. For things like mixing and mastering, the KRK ROKIT 7 G4s are my go-to. I get a really nice, neutral tone from these speakers, which is why they are ideal for my mastering, mixing, and as an all-around solution. Having the option to switch back and forth between these two lines has really allowed me to open up and get what I want out of my music.”

LOCS also has tested other leading brands for his workflow and says that the variety in sound afforded by KRK CLASSICs and ROKITs is something he can’t find anywhere else. “The KRKs have just been great,” he shares. “Nothing else has hit for me like the KRKs have; the sound they give off has become so natural and familiar. I see myself continuing to use the brand for a very long time.”

LOCS is so dedicated to the brand that he most recently added the KRK GoAux Portable Monitor Solution to his setup. As someone who bounces between his studios in Atlanta and Los Angeles, he says that a pair of mobile speakers was the perfect addition to his workflow. “The GoAux are definitely going to come in handy,” he adds. “I know I’m going to have them with me all the time because I love how they make it possible to work on the go. Since the GoAux are specifically designed for mobile production, I know that I’ll be able to keep my music quality where I want it, no matter where I am.”

As LOCS continues putting out music and traveling across the country, his KRKs will continue to remain by his side in the studio and on the go. “These GoAux are perfect for me,” he declares. “I can only imagine what kind of convenience they’ll provide. All my work in the studio this past year has been with ROKITs and CLASSICs, and I can’t wait to add the GoAux to the mix. For me, there’s no reason to have any other speakers―the KRKs serve all the purposes that I need. Just know that when I have music coming out: if it’s made by me, it’s made with KRK.”

Listen to LOCS’ latest single, “Good Time,” on Spotify, Apple Music, or any major streaming platform. Plus, stay up to date with LOCS on Instagram and Twitter.

Italian Musician Lapo Consortini Finds Versatile Production Solution with KRK GoAux

The Portable Monitor System Offers Consistent and Accurate Audio in the Studio and on the Road

Italian Musician, Guitarist, and Producer Lapo Consortini’s career started with a computer science engineering degree and a passion for music, and has since turned into an impressive résumé of skills for studio and stage productions alike. Consortini has molded a unique position for himself in the music industry, relying on his transversal knowledge of engineering, songwriting, recording, and production to establish connections and participate in various live and recorded projects. With such a diverse lineup of work, Consortini recently turned to the KRK GoAux 4 Portable Monitor System for consistent and accurate audio, no matter the location or task.

“I am always on the go for projects, covering a lot of artists and different musical genres,” Consortini explains, “and the GoAux 4 are easing my workflow immensely. Within seconds, I can easily set up the speakers and establish the ideal sound using the integrated ARC system. They also work easily with a laptop and provide good sound pressure and full-range fidelity, even in a small hotel room, with no compromise on audio quality. It’s incredible how they sound in lower ranges without having to set undesirably high volumes.”

The GoAux are a welcome addition to Consortini’s setup, assisting him on various editing and mixing projects. Most recently, he prepared the arrangements, programming, and backing tracks for Italian pop band Modà’s current tour, which features a live orchestra accompaniment. He has also arranged and produced numerous jingles for various Italian radio stations, in addition to recording and mixing the latest single for Italian singer-songwriter Paola Turci. “I’ve been very satisfied,” Consortini says of the KRK GoAux. “The monitors keep me safe in the reviewing process of all my mixes. When you reach that perfect connection with the sound of your speakers, you know you can expect accuracy and transparent audio from all your music.”

While Consortini only recently got his hands on the GoAux, he has long been familiar with KRK as a brand. “I’ve been using KRK for over ten years now,” he says. “Throughout my career, I have tried many different KRK lines and series, from the ROKITs and retired VXT series to the original Exposè E8Bs. Even when I was first starting out, I would notice the brand throughout Italian recording studios thanks to the bright yellow cones. You can immediately recognize a KRK in a jungle of speakers. These days, I’m hoping to upgrade my studio setup with a new pair of the KRK V-Series 4 Studio Monitors, which provide a very comfortable listening experience compared to other brands I have tried.”

Similarly, the KRK GoAux stand out in comparison to Consortini’s previous, industry-standard mobile studio monitors. “These aren’t my first pair of mobile speakers, but they are the best I’ve seen,” he explains. “Thanks to the minimal and simple connections, foldable stands with inclines, and custom-made carrying bag, the KRK GoAux are ideal for on-the-go work. The GoAux are the perfect size to use on a small surface with my laptop and provide a good and definitive sound while also allowing my colleagues to listen to what I’m producing. I can’t wait to take the KRK GoAux on tour with me.” With Consortini hitting the road alongside Modà and Italian Singer/Songwriter Marco Masini, he is most excited about the benefits afforded by the simple and sleek design of the GoAux. “I am not afraid of complexity; I like my gear to have many features,” he finishes. “Being a modern producer forces you to obtain optimal results in a short time, so I love finding complex yet easy-to-use solutions to help with my work. The KRK GoAux 4’s perfect balance of robustness, simplicity, and versatility provides exactly that.”
